  1. Where have we heard all this money pinching saga before ? Ah every transfer window.

  2. Saint Stivs on 24th July 2025 2:22 pm
why is Brendan Rodgers telling everyone he knows what is happening with transfers, that he has the final say, that getting first team ready players is required, but also longer term development players are all part of the succession planning.

Doesnt he know that many celtic bloggers know better, know it is PL controlled, and know that he is not being supported by the board, and indeed will be forced to quit.

why is he actually saying these thing in interviews.

    ——————

It’s pretty straightforward. There will be players within our recruitment team that are not just for now but for the future.

“Clearly, I will look at those players and assess, and see if those players can come in and play. Then there will be other players we specifically need. It’s still very much joined up.

“I suppose it’s more around whether the players are for now or later. People know the model over a number of years. There are players who come in who are maybe not expected to hit the ground running, but some of them do.

“That’s what I need to assess, those guys coming in. But I also need to win now, and we need to get those players in. Either way, I will be responsible for that.

“Club signings, with the greatest respect, I don’t care where they come (from), I just need good players in the building who can help us win today, tomorrow and the next week.

“I’ve always developed players in my career, so I respect that side of it, but also the need for the present.”

Rodgers can understand fans frustration with the Hoops desperately needing at least one winger and another striker ahead of the new campaign – and the Champions League qualifier on the horizon.

He said: “I respect what the supporters are – I want players in tomorrow. But I understand the market and what you need to do to bring a player in.

“It’s not as easy as clicking your fingers. We all want them in at the start, absolutely, and none more so than the coach.

“But there is a middle and an end, and as long as you have them in by the end, it’s such a long season, so I’m very hopeful we’ll do that.

“I am, because there is a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes in terms of players.

“Of course, you look at our squad and you can see where there are needs for improvement. It’s pretty clear.

“The market is difficult in terms of timings and everything else. On the same token, we are only 11 days away from the new season and we want to get players in as quickly as we can.

“If you are looking to bring in a player that will improve us, the other club is looking to maximise their assets as well.”

Celtic have a pile of cash in the bank after the £17m sale of Nicholas Kuhn on top of impressive reserves.

But Rodgers is not demanding a bumper war chest as he defended last summer’s £26m trio of Arne Engels, Adam Idah and Auston Trusty.

He said: “There was a bit of focus around the players who came in last year and question marks around what they brought.

“For one, they didn’t set the price. But, two, Celtic did as well as they’ve done for a decade and those guys really helped us.

“Trusty was outstanding in the Champions League. Engels, his running power, was really helpful for us, he’s a young player who will get better.

“Idah scored over 20 goals and still has improvements to make. It depends on perspective. I felt we needed physicality and power for the Champions League and that really helped us.

“Those players have still more to develop.

“Whether a player costs £250,000 or £12m, I’m not really concerned. I’ve seen and worked with players who have cost more but others who have cost less but are much better players.

“I’m not really fixated on, ‘I need £10m, £15m or whatever’ – I just need quality players.”

    _——–

    fergus. that is false accounting.’

So, St, it’s false accounting that the operating expenses are not itemised in the accounts?
So now YOU are accusing the Celtic PLC of false accounting?
Because the fact is the accounts do not show what the opex are actually being spent on therefore the fans have no idea what the board are doing with their money.

Doesn’t this concern you, particularly when you are the one claiming that this false accounting, which I wasn’t accusing them of?

    And one more thing …

Did you really write that because you were working for an American/Chinese company that the word is ‘Dividen’ and not Dividend?

That both the Americans and Chinese drop the D at the end of Dividend?

Because, my friend, that is beyond preposterous and now makes me look at everything you write with a wary eye, thinking that maybe you haven’t a damn clue what you’re on about.

You actually wrote that, along with all the other guff you’ve been spouting on every single Celtic site around, while brainlessly asking various site hosts ‘Who is this Shin Yamada Joe McHugh mentioned on The ‘Tricep’ (sic) Tims podcast?’

Don’t you know how to do a Google search?

I’m sorry, chum, but that one statement alone, along with the dropped D at the end of Dividend, renders your output into the sphere of rambling nonsense and I strongly suggest you lay off whatever poison has such nonsense polluting all of Celtic cyberspace.

Maybe Chris is correct and you really ought to contain your rubbish within the Lawwell loving clique of CQN as you’ve contributed absolutely nothing worthwhile to any of the blogs you’re currently infecting, despite your prodigious, and ultimately empty, output.

Because, quite simply, after all this rubbish none of us will be able to take you seriously ever again.

  8. ferguss

it is becausei am a robot.

i will try again for you – the accounts will have every expense and income itemised from the various ledgers, payrolls, bank accounts, etc etc, these will be audited and filed , but will not be in the public domain.

The term “dividen” is not a standard English word. It appears to be a misspelling of “dividend”.

well done you for pointing out my error is spilling mitakes

  9. here is what is leagally required, if you are a shareholder with a particular concenr, go ask the company secretary –

    ————

In the UK, all limited companies must file basic information with Companies House, which is publicly accessible. However, the extent of detail required varies, with smaller companies previously allowed to file abbreviated accounts excluding profit and loss information.

Recent legislation, the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, is changing this, requiring all companies to file full profit and loss accounts.

    Here’s a breakdown:
    Public Register:
Companies House is the registry for UK limited companies, and it makes certain company information available to the public.
    What’s Publicly Available:
This includes information about the company’s constitution (articles of association), share capital, financial information (including profit and loss accounts and balance sheets), director details, and information about people with significant control over the company.
    Changes for Smaller Companies:
Previously, small and micro-companies could file abbreviated accounts, potentially omitting the profit and loss account.
    Mandatory Full Accounts:
The Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 requires all companies, regardless of size, to file full profit and loss accounts.

  14. ‘ Mandatory Full Accounts:

No, Spiv, I don’t know how accounts work, that’s why I’m asking you, the expert …

What I do know is that you’re quite happy for our PLC, the CUSTODIANS of Celtic FC, NOT its owners, to keep their financial transactions a secret from the fans in the operating expenses, despite the PLC’s grandiose, and false, claim that ‘Our accounts are open’ when this is clearly not the case.

Remember, this is the Celtic support’s money, and does not belong to any of the PLC, as they are simply the custodians of the football club and business, yet they act as though it belongs to them, and this is where you look the fool in the eyes of the majority of the Tims who follow these blogs …

For, despite all your financial whizzkid ‘knowledge’ you seem to think that it’s fine for these men to hide what they’re spending all our money on.

Because why would that secrecy be necessary if there was nothing shady going on around it

As for your claim that no accountant or auditor is in any way shady and all have impeccable reputations, well, my friend, that claim right there either proves that you’re the damn fool here.

Or you’re deliberately running interference on behalf of Lawwell and the PLC as so many folk have you accused you of from Day One, from the moment you suddenly decided to splash your pish over every blog instead of just limiting it to your previous CQN hidey hole.

Now go away, you’re a pain in the arse, you lackey board stooge.

  19. What brought you out from CQN?

The rise of the bloggers and the podcasts.
I listen, they askyou to respond, they want the clicks, and they ask for comments.

Shall I responnd to trinity tims, the celtic exchange, ACSOM and several others, well fellas I dont agree with you on a certain point, and I would like to tell you why, but there is lynch mob of hysterical name callers who want me to go away and be quiet. While name calling, adding sweary words and adding in some hate speech while they are at it.

I’ll tell you something, stooge, I don’t believe for one second that any company would employ such appalling illiteracy, unless it was a toilet cleaning company.

Because you really don’t know how to spell even the simplest of words and who would trust an illiterate like you to to run their finances for them?

I mean, you literally have no concept of spelling, and no shame about this ignorance and stupidity either, so therefore I call you out as a fraud, an imbecile who’s just looking for attention.

Put quite simply, you’re an embarrassment to yourself and you’re so stupid you don’t even know it, recognise it or even care.

Which would be funny if it weren’t so sad and pathetic.

    Bye now.

  21. I am not a board lackey, I know not a soul in there, I am not as friend of Paul Brennan, and I disagree with the longevity of Board members at Celtic plc. I have never met Peter Lawwell or DD, I have never even attended a private box or had a freebie invite to any events.

However, when I analyse the business as a business, I come to a very simple conclusion. Once I have made the choice to buy something from the organisation, a seat for a match, a season card, a book, a bovril, amd now a CTV subscription, well i paid it to the owners, and if they make profits on it, well I have no say, no right to scream, but we are the Celtic, the fans it is us , our money, get it spent in the way that i say, and hurry up about it.

Even as a small shareholder, you are getting nothing back, you have a right to vote, and a copy of the annual report, but no discounts, no freebies, no birthday card, no real thanks.

    You are just another customer.

You continue to spend on them, you lost your right to complain about spending.

As a buy the way 1.6m people attended celtic park last season, our highest ever. Every department makes money.

    The plc love it.

  22. You’re being paranoid, Spiv, I don’t write on any other football blog but here as this is the only one that wasn’t full of the pompous self obsessed, until you came along.

And this is acceptable to you, is it?

That the Celtic PLC are allowed to hide the support’s money under the operating expenses?

That, despite their grandiose, and self evidently false claim that ‘Our accounts are open to scrutiny’ that they are NOT open to scrutiny at all but are privy only to the auditors and not the fans whose money it actually is?

As I wrote earlier, you’re off your rocker or complicit in whatever scam the board are working on us.

This is similar to Lawwell’s lie from over a decade ago that ‘Every penny will be invested into the club’ (sic) which we know to be false as Lawwell has pocketed over £25 million pounds of it for himself as British Football’s Highest Paid CEO, and who knows how much the rest of them have trousered in between through dividends etc, though we do know that our current CEO, Michael ‘The Invisible Man’ Nicholson, is taking home £835,000 per annum before bonuses, which is an awful lot of money for someone who seems to doing nothing but hiding behind Lawwell’s imposing shadow.

Then there was Lawwell’s lie to shareholders at the 2019 AGM that he ‘had never seen the Five Way Agreement’, a lie that should have cost him his job but which instead saw him take a 6 month break, where Ange Postecoglou came in and made signing players and squad building look easy, at least until Lawwell came back and pissed all over his planning.

So, no, Spiv, I will not be giving the Celtic PLC one more penny of my money, not on strips nor any merchandise of any kind and I won’t be attending any games while these men remain in charge.

But you do you, now that we all know that you really are the PLC board lackey that everyone has repeatedly accused you of being.

Do they pay you in cash or just free Bovril at half time?

  31. ‘ print it out Fegus, have a read, look at how the balance sheet, well balances out’

You can obfuscate with all the bullshit you like, Spiv, but I’ve only ever been asking you one simple question …

Why aren’t the operating expenses publicly itemised?

Why aren’t the support allowed to know what the Celtic PLC CUSTODIANS are doing with their money?

That’s the only thing I would like an answer to, preferably from you, the financial expert.

And, as a financial expert, don’t you think it suspicious that the support are not allowed to know where every penny of their money is being spent?

Doesn’t that make you as suspicious as it would anyone with a modicum of intelligence?

Because if it doesn’t then you really are far stupider than even I currently suspect you of being.

  32. I was sitting here, all retired, thinking why are people sick of me, do they not have work to do ? Friends to meet ? Protests to attend ? Have the pubs shut down ?

What makes someone stay answering comments on a blog when it is a nice day outside, dont they have better things to do ?

I am here waiting on a new fridge, and dont work any more, so it is a mere passtime for me, but for others, its a shame really.

  33. Why aren’t the operating expenses publicly itemised?

    tries again

BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE TO.

An itemised report for all expenses I would hazard a guess at 10,000 pages long,

have you ever seen a ledger report ?

  34. ‘ Celtic hiding supporters money under operating expenses, you use the words hiding and scam.

Lets say I buy a season book, do you think that appears in the accounts as something else ?

You are back on the false accounting claims again there.’

I am NOT claiming any false accounting!

I am wondering why the support’s money is not itemised publicly and what possible reasons there could be for hiding it.

I am not accusing the Celtic board of fraud, and if you are as true as time written elsewhere, I also retract my accusation of you being a fraud.

But the fact the expenses ARE being self evidently hidden from the board then I cannot help but think that something suspicious is going on, and seemingly suspicious financial activity is often referred to as a ‘scam’.

However I am not accusing the Celtic board of scamming, I’m merely asking the question ‘Why all the secrecy?’

And that is the one question neither you, or anyone on the Celtic board, is prepared to answer.

For if everything is indeed above board then why must it be kept secret?

After all, Peter Lawwell has been caught lying to the shareholders and support twice already so why on Earth should any of us trust him or any of his cohort with anything ever again?

These are simple observations and should be simple questions to answer yet the only reply I’ve ever received from anyone is ‘That’s just how it is’, which is no answer at all, yet which you keep reverting to in your defence of the board’s policies, whether wittingly or unwittingly.

The fact is that the operating expenses seem to rise incredibly high along with annual turnover and the current figure of £105 million pounds FIR THIS YEAR ALONE to run a West of Scotland football club with a wage ceiling of c. 40k per week is astronomically high and I for one would like to see where all that money of these past 20 odd years has actually gone, wouldn’t you?

For it’s currently well over one billion pounds Sterling since Lawwell first came in and that’s an awful lot of mosey to have just disappeared without anyone knowing where it all could possibly have gone to, don’t you think so yourself?

  35. Ok, a simple answer –
Doing more things, costs us more money, we had payrises across the business, Utilities, electricity and rates goes up, First team reported some extensions on higher pay I assume. That old “inflation” chesnut hitting them as well –

£105m expenses – up £10m, its not difficult to understand why.

    OPERATING EXPENSES
Total operating expenses (before exceptional operating items and
intangible asset transactions) have increased from last year by
    £10.0m (10.4%) to £105.4m.

Labour costs saw an increase of
£4.8m (7.9%) which was driven by investment in the Men’s first
team and management team as well as wage cost inflation across
    the business.

Other operating expenses increased by £5.2m (15.0%).
This was driven by cost of sales in relation to increased retail revenues, significant increases to utility and business rates, stadium maintenance spend and general overhead inflation.
Wage inflation continues to be an area of concern throughout the
worldwide football industry and currently in the wider UK economy.
The Board recognises the need to maintain strict control over wage
costs and this will continue to be closely monitored. On-going
financial controls remain in place to ensure that labour costs are
maintained at a manageable level, particularly in relation to revenues.

  36. St Stivs says:

‘ Why aren’t the operating expenses publicly itemised?

    tries again

BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE TO.

An itemised report for all expenses I would hazard a guess at 10,000 pages long,’

So you’re saying exactly what everyone else is saying ‘ Why aren’t the operating expenses publicly itemised?

    tries again

BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE TO.

An itemised report for all expenses I would hazard a guess at 10,000 pages long,’

So that would be too much work for the people being paid to publish these expenses, would it?

‘have you ever seen a ledger report ?’

No, Stivs, as I’ve told you I’m not the finance guy here, you are.
I’m not particularly interested in finances, I would just like to know how the Celtic board can allow the operating expenses to run so seemingly out of control year on year but that is a question you and the Celtic PLC seem very happy not to answer and if you’re happy to go along with the ‘They do not have to’ line then it’s no wonder everyone on every Celtic blog is calling you a board stooge running interference on their behalf, no matter what you say.

Peter Lawwell alone is pocketing £120,000 per year as an alleged ‘Non Executive Chairman’ even though it’s obvious from all of the transfer window inactivity since he came back that they’re running the same old Moneyball strategy of Buying Cheap & Selling High (if possible’ and it was Ange Postecoglou who proved that one none of this stuff is difficult if you know what you’re doing while Peter was out of the building for that brief 6 month period.

As for this ‘Don’t people have other things to do on a sunny day’ nonsense, that’s total insult to your intelligence, not mine, as you’re the one spilling your garbage all over every Celtic blog around.

For my part I’m currently stuck at home sick, rain or shine, which is no laughing matter and I choose to keep my mind active by asking you one simple question which you’ve spent the past week avoiding answering.

For ‘Because they don’t have to’ only fuels further suspicion more than anything.

For the purpose of the Celtic board is to make Celtic Football Club the best it can be on & off the park and the fact that Sevco have spent more than the laughable £2.7 million the board have currently invested in the Celtic squad only proves my point that Lawwell is still pulling the strings.

This is almost certainly why Ange Postecoglou left when he realised that Peter’s ‘Life in the slow lane’ bullshit wouldn’t work for what Ange had in mind to take our club forward in the way he wished and wanted, particularly after having Lawwell’s totally inexperienced son foisted upon him, the proof of which lies in the fact that almost every player young Mark signed barely got a sniff of a game and almost all are now gone from the club or will be soon.

    You enjoy the sunshine now.

unlike others I am not getting paid for writing articles or posting comments, I might not be too bothered about spelling grammar or puncuation, but I can read a set of accounts.

    Go figure.’

Yet you can’t answer the one simple question I keep asking you …

If you’re not the board stooge everyone calls you as then I’m trying to figure out why you keep defending their policy of secrecy around where all the money’s going.

So, Spiv, why ARE you always defending them?

  38. Just one more thing …

Do you think the Celtic PLC board put more into the club or is it their sole job just to take more out?

Apparently they don’t even pay for their drinks at the bar, so the Celtic support have to finance that too while paying well over the odds for a beer just because the bar’s in the ground.

Personally I think they’d be as well taking their dicks out and spraying all the poor punters who are being overcharged for everything around them.

At least it would be honest for a change.

  39. I can not believe Eric that you are all in with the “record ” when it suits your agenda. Yep it it must be true Celtic are trying to get a cut price deal. The Record says so ergo it must be true. It seems Celtic effed up the Kvistgaarden deal as well and now he is operating un the Championship division. Well Celtic do not tell anyone their plans so how the feck does the fekin Daily Hun know. Don’t
tell us Royal Antwerp said it as they will say only what might benefit them.
I see that the Board are still getting grief in here and from you Eric despite Brendan opening up on his role in Transfers . What real fan would really do that.
Must say I have enjoyed the Saint Stivs V Fergus Isle exchange. I do think Saint Stivs is winning quite easily and Fergus Isle is losing his cool and is more insulting and I am delighted that he chose to post on here.
Fergus Isle I think you should talk to other folk in the accounting business
so you can better get a grip of the GREAT operating account better. Just my opinion I have enjoyed your little debate and I WILL enjoy Saint Stivs future posts.

  40. Apparently they don’t even pay for their drinks at the bar,

    ———

you would be hard pressed to find executives in any company who pay for anything while attending to business, which is how they see being at Celtic park.

  41. cheers wee barra.

i am actually trying to share what i think is relevant information, and in context, the rants back with added searies and insults, well nothing i havnt heard before.

I am from Port Glasgow efter awe.

  42. Please please please 🙏 Eric, I know your blog is open to everyone but can’t you edit out St Stivs comments, I’ll be writing to all my favourite sites on this as he’s spoiling my enjoyment of reading you, joe and James’s blogs plus a few others, I’m all for free speech and everyone is entitled to their opinion but this guy is on an other level, cutting and pasting the same drivel repeatedly, the guy is now like a virus infecting every site I go onto now.

  43. I wish I could but you’re everywhere like a bad smell, stick to CQN and leave the rest of us in peace
