In the last few days, there have been quite a few rumours circulating about young centre-back, Etienne Youte, joining Celtic.

As I’ve been reading the stories about this player, I’ve been inclined to dismiss them all.

For starters, why would we be looking at a centre-back when we’re in dire need of replacements for our forward line?

More to the point, since the board has baulked at any £5 million price tags up to now, why would they suddenly decide that they’re willing to pay this kind of money for a player like Youte?

The whole idea just makes no sense.

Both Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Jakob Breum had similar price tags, and guess what, they’re not at Celtic, are they?

So why would we bring in a centre-back, which we do not need, for a price that we’ve baulked at throughout this window?

You know what, though?

Us landing this player before front-line reinforcements actually would not shock me at all.

Its just like something our club would do right now.

But make no mistake, if they did, I get the feeling that would really piss the manager off.

It isn’t as if they’re not doing enough already to ensure that.

Now, I understand that we do need back up players for the centre-back positions because we know how injury prone CCV is.

But right now, this position is not a priority.

By all means, bring him in if we’re serious about bringing him in.

But do it after we bring in the forward players Celtic are so desperately in need of.

Regardless, its blatantly obvious that we’re waiting to see what happens in the Champions League qualifier before we bring in reinforcements of any kind.

Despite what others might say.

Because we now know that at this point, its highly unlikely we will have any additions in place for that qualifier.

Why we have to wait until after then is beyond me.

We could be ready and firing on all cylinders for this upcoming CL qualifier.

Instead, now the fans are left to worry about a fixture we should never have had to worry about.

But this is what our board does, they take risks.

They take gambles.

And if they pull them off, they’ll all pat each other on the back for a job well done.

They’d better hope and pray that the manager they rely so much on, yet can’t wait to see the back of, comes through for them.

He should never have been put in this position going into a CL qualifier.

Yet, if we don’t qualify, they will try and blame him.

But this time around, it won’t fly.

Because everybody now knows better.

The next few weeks could alter perceptions at Celtic very much.

I guess we’ll see just how much soon enough.
