The Ibrox side has spent £35 million this summer. One side is serious about winning the title, and it’s not Celtic

Yes, you read that right, when it comes down to brass tacks, the Ibrox side has spent £21.5 million more than Celtic in the summer transfer window.

Which would indicate that they are serious about mounting a challenge for this season’s league title.

And while their intentions may be serious, their position on the table states otherwise.

However, based on the way things have gone for Celtic over the last ten days or so, you get the sneaking suspicion that the Ibrox side might just start getting it together from here on out.

Well, it couldn’t get any worse, or could it?

As for Celtic?

Well, our custodians have decided that a strike force that has amassed five goals between them in 2025 is more than enough for us to be competitive in the league this season.

Kelechi Iheanacho, scorer of one goal in 2025, and in need of losing a few pounds, was considered an adequate replacement for Adam Idah.

Scorer of 20 goals in 2025, and in perfect shape.

So, as I alluded to at the outset, one Glasgow side is taking this season seriously, one is clearly not.

At this moment in time, the Celtic attack cannot buy a goal.

The fact that our striking options have been further depleted, does not auger well for the month ahead.

And when I say depleted, I mean depleted.

Because an out of shape, out of form Kelechi Iheanacho has a lot to do to reach peak fitness, and a lot to prove when it comes to filling part of the massive void that has been created by the losses of Kyogo, Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah.

Celtic are in need of a minor miracle when it comes to our three striking options if they are to become potent in front of goal.

In reality, that is going to take time.

Meanwhile, over at Ibrox, one of two things is going to happen.

This season is either going to prove that they’ve blown £35 million on garbage, or that it was £35 million wisely spent.

I cannot argue with the purchase of Bojan Miovski.

That is good business all round.

This was also a business opportunity that Celtic chose entirely to ignore, and it wasn’t the first time.

Miovski is a proven goal scorer in the Scottish Premiership, it will only be a matter of time before he starts firing on all cylinders.

This is familiar territory to him.

Clearly far more familiar than the territory in La Liga.

Miovski was comfortable in the Scottish game, and there’s no doubt he will find his form once again in fair Caledonia.

As for the Portuguese kid, Youssef Chermiti?

Well, it remains to be seen what he can deliver in the Scottish game.

On the overall scheme of things, you have to ask yourself who, potentially will have the better September?

We resume League action with a trip to Rugby Park.

A ground that has been notoriously troublesome to us in the past.

The plastic pitch is not conducive to our style of play to begin with.

Add the fact we’re struggling for goals, and this has all the hallmarks of an absolute slog.

There is no doubting Stuart Kettlewell will line his side up to put eleven men behind the ball.

A point under current circumstances is about the best we can hope for, I would think.

As for the Ibrox side, they take on an in form Hearts side.

This fixture has the potential to change the complexion of the League table completely.

If the Ibrox side can win, it will put them on 7 points.

Moving them to just three behind us before we head into the Sunday fixture at Rugby Park.

If we drop points against Kilmarnock, then they’re back in contention, and that will be their incentive when they take Hearts on.

That particular fixture could be pivotal in opening up this season’s title race.

Once again, we should never really be in a position where we’re worrying about a trip to Rugby Park.

This time last season, we wouldn’t have been in the slightest concerned about this fixture.

Instead, thanks to our wonderful board, we’ve been put in a position where we’re going into every fixture with trepidation.

Following on from that game, we face Partick Thistle away in the League Cup quarter final.

That is also a potential banana skin, but you’d feel we have enough to navigate that fixture without too much trouble.

Sandwiched in between our next League fixture is a trip to Belgrade to face Crvena Zvezda in a “glamour” (not!!) Europa League tie.

God knows what could happen there, and if I’m honest, I couldn’t care less.

Following that, we will face Hibernian at Celtic Park on Sunday the 27th for the first home game since the most shambolic transfer window in Celtic’s 21st century history closed.

The Ibrox side head to Almondvale to face Livingston, following a trip to Genk and a home League Cup quarter final prior to that against Hibs.

One would be interested to see what the League table looks like by the close of play on the 27th.

One is also going to be extremely interested to see how the fans react to the board’s shambolic behaviour since the turn of 2025.

If we have paid a serious price for that by the final whistle on Sunday the 27th, then hell hath no fury.

These charlatans will have no where to hide.

One side has chosen to take this season seriously.

Our board takes nothing seriously, other than raising the bank balance.

They are about to find out the repercussions of that.

The 27th can’t come quick enough.

If they didn’t take us seriously before then?

They certainly will by the time we’re finished with them that afternoon at Celtic Park.

It will be a sight to behold.
