Celtic land record signing Hector McSpectre for £12.4 million

Yes, you read that one correctly. After record turnover in the club’s latest financial statement, Celtic spent a whopping transfer record of £12.4 million on Hector McSpectre.

This makes Hector of HMRC the club’s record signing.

And what did we get in return for that huge outlay?

Well, not a lot really.

I suppose we do have a lot of cash in the bank, and on top of that, a much weakened squad.

But HMRC are delighted with us, I’m sure, as Peter and chums must be considered fantastic contributors to their coffers.

I’m sure when every financial year comes to an end, HMRC must be rubbing their hands together with glee.

But in all seriousness, when you see a figure like this paid in corporation tax, you wonder what the point is in holding on to all of this money.

Yes, if there was a plan for it, we’d understand.

But there doesn’t seem to be.

And if there is, the Celtic board, as part of their continued silence, refuses to disclose it to us.

The Celtic Fans Collective have been quite busy of late, highlighting the state of disrepair Celtic Park is in, while such a vast amount of cash sits in the club coffers.

Now that is a bit of an eye opener, don’t you think?

At the start of last month, seven questions were submitted to the Celtic board outlining the majority of the concerns of the fanbase.

Almost a month later, we still await answers on these questions.

Tomorrow evening against Braga in the Europa League, there will be 29 minutes of silence to mark 29 days of silence from the Celtic board.

Not one of the seven questions was unreasonable.

Not one of them would be difficult to answer.

If we had a board that was actually competent.

The reason the board cannot answer these questions is either because they do not have the answers, or they believe that continuous contempt for the fanbase is the way forward.

You would expect that it is the latter, as this as been their default M.O. for the better part of this century.

It would appear that they are incapable of operating any other way.

Now, we did discuss the effectiveness of the silent protests at Celtic Park on the Trinity Tims podcast on Monday night.

I must admit, I had mixed feelings about it.

However, whatever the Celtic Fans Collective chooses to do, I will back 100%.

The current protest format might not be to everyone’s taste, but it still conveys the message that we will have had 29 days of silence from the board.

They cannot continue to ignore the fanbase, yet we know they will.

But there will come a point where ignorance is no longer tenable.

Because the more this movement grows, the more publicity it will get.

And the more publicity it gets, the more difficult the board’s default position becomes.

This is like a game of chicken.

But I can assure you of one thing, the fanbase will not be the ones to turn away from the collision at the last second.

This only ends one way.

With a root and branch clear out of the boardroom.

We’re in this for the long haul.

The sooner the board realises that?

The better for our club.

One thing is clear though, the best interests of our club do not matter a jot to these men.

If they did, our stadium wouldn’t be falling apart, and Hector McSpectre wouldn’t be our record signing.

But that’s where we are.

£12.4 million in corporation tax.

Are you honestly telling me that none of that could be written off to stadium renovations?

I believe it could be….

You’d think a bunch of accountants and lawyers would be aware of that now, wouldn’t you?
