It’s interesting to see how quickly everybody jumps on a suggestion for the next Celtic manager from a board apologist whose credibility has decreased rapidly over the past few weeks.
Charlie Mulgrew has been very quick to show where his allegiances lie when it comes to the current divide between the board and the Celtic fanbase.
Today, it would appear he also believes that Dermot Desmond is some kind of miracle worker.
Or he at least has placed huge faith in Desmond to deliver a major name as the next Celtic manager.
I would suggest that his faith is a tad misplaced.
If you want a more accurate assessment of what’s going to happen in this managerial recruitment process, I’d suggest listening to the Trinity Tims podcast from last night.
We give a pretty realistic idea of how this process will pan out.
What I find amusing, though, is the way that the media, followed by fan media, then jumps on a ridiculously out there suggestion by Mulgrew.
He believes that Desmond should be pulling out all the stops and going after Jurgen Klopp.
Like I said in the headline, nice idea, but not reality.
Mulgrew seems to have a bit of difficulty grasping reality anyway.
He believes that Dermot Desmond and the Celtic board are doing a sterling job at the moment.

He also thinks that the Celtic fans are out of line when to comes to protesting against the board, and wanting change at the club.
Mulgrew is very much an advocate of, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
So, imagine my surprise (not) today, when the Record ran with his ramblings about Desmond bringing in Jurgen Klopp.
If I’m honest, I get the impression they ran with it to make him look like a fool.
Because it takes a special kind of stupid to make yourself look foolish up to Kris Boyd and Steven Naismith.
I’m not even going to give you the transcript of the conversation here.
I’d rather spare you the cringe factor it induces.
You can access it via the link provided.
As I said, it’s amusing then that several fan media outlets ran with the story.
The chances of Jurgen Klopp coming to Celtic are somewhere between Bob Hope and no hope.

Jurgen Klopp was earning around £7 million a year at Liverpool.
If anybody thinks Dermot Desmond would sanction that kind of salary, they’re delusional.
Add to that the fact that he could walk into any top tier German, Spanish or English club, then it’s highly unlikely he would even consider coming to a backwater League like the Scottish Premiership.
There’s being fanciful, and there’s being utterly stupid when it comes to suggesting something like this.
Mulgrew falls into the latter category in my view.
A few months ago, the Ibrox fans were dreaming of managers like Jose Mourinho, Marco Rose, and Davide Ancelotti.
We were in hysterics, and you can see why when you look at what they landed, and what they have now.
Mulgrew suggesting we should be landing someone like Jurgen Klopp gives Ibrox fans the exact same opportunity to laugh at us.
It’s bad enough when Kris Boyd and Steven Naismith are being given that opportunity.
Worse when our own fan media jumps on it as well.
Jurgen Klopp will not be coming to Celtic.
We should be smarter than to run with something like that…
Key Takeaways
- Charlie Mulgrew expresses misplaced faith in Dermot Desmond to hire a high-profile Celtic manager.
- He controversially suggested Jurgen Klopp, sparking ridicule among fans and the media.
- The likelihood of Klopp coming to Celtic is extremely low, considering his high salary and better opportunities elsewhere.
- The article criticises both Mulgrew’s views and the media’s role in amplifying unrealistic suggestions about the club.
- Celtic fans need to be cautious about unrealistic managerial expectations to avoid embarrassment.
That mulgrew and Lennon are as usual being sycophantic to Desmond , The two of them are sickening I’ve went right off them . It makes you laugh that they get put on tv and radio for their opinions . I look at Lennon and he’s just a very angry bitter man but thankfully he wasn’t given the job .my choice of manager would be somebody like Bodo glimt manager Knutsen . He’s been manager for 7 years there . Not sure if that is the kind of club where they change the manager or coach then the next man comes in and it continues as it’s the club strategy rather than the managers strategy
Charlie Mulgrew is an absolute idiot who makes Kris Boyd look clever and Steven Davis look magnanimous. He is the Modern Day equivalent of Derek Johnstone. A Celtic cheerleader who has no brains, no insight, no knowledge of anything inside of Celtic and yet coins it in from these Media outlets. The standard of Punditry in Scottish Football is abysmal.
