Celtic fans in stitches, as Alex Rae takes the Ibrox club to the cleaners for unfair dismissal

Alex Rae has never stop professing his undying love for the Ibrox club, and I’ve no doubt that he still loves the club with all his heart.

But the truth of it is he’s just going to have to love them from afar now.

After a lengthy battle with his old employers for claiming he was unfairly sacked, its unlikely he’ll be welcomed back at Ibrox any time soon.

In an article in today’s Sun, Rae was reported to have claimed he was dismissed in breach of contract.

And that his former employers failed to hand over a bonus payment as well.

Now, it wouldn’t be like the Ibrox club to do something as underhanded as that, would it?

Rae, of course, was the recipient of a substantial EBT (Employee Benefit Trust) payment during the notorious EBT era.

In total, during his short two year stint at Rangers 1872, the Fester Adams look alike was paid £569,000 in EBT payments.

Considering his old club was so generous to him, his claim for a total payment of £12,461 seems pretty paltry in comparison.

This comprised of £10,000, which was a bonus payment, and £2,461 which he was owed in holiday pay.

It seems that to secure the money was “eachy peachy” (one of his favourite sayings) for Rae, as the Ibrox club didn’t even bother to send a representative to the tribunal.

Instead, they’ll now receive a demand to pay him what he’s owed.

That shouldn’t be much of a problem for them, since the club is apparently rolling in it now after forking out £43 million in player transfers this season.

As for Rae, he is currently Mark Wilson’s Assistant Manager at Partick Thistle.

During his short stint at Ibrox back in the mid-noughties, Rae was remembered for his “mild mannered” approach to his opponents.

He was always considered a very fair and likeable character on the field of play.

He and loveable Kitman, Jimmy Bell, were great mates.

Rae and Bell shared the infamous “Helicopter Sunday” title win in 2005.

Rae has spoken about the raw emotion in the dressing room that day and how Bell, despite his stern exterior, was the heartbeat of those celebrations, (one can imagine what that particular heartbeat encapsulated) capturing the essence of what it meant to be a “R*****s man”.

Both were very loveable characters, and of course, didn’t have a sectarian bone in their bodies.

Indeed.

For a man who had a lifelong love of the Ibrox club, Rae wasn’t long turning on them when they did him out of a few poun’.

I guess he’ll just have to be a die hard Partick Thistle fan now.

Celtic fans have always considered Rae to be an inveterate thug.

Well, it appears he had no problem turning on the club he supposedly loves so much to ensure they paid him every last penny he was owed.

I suppose the genorousity of the deid club back in the EBT days in comparison to the behaviour of the new club left a bitter taste in his mouth.

Safe to say, its unlikely he’ll be seen around Ibrox again any time soon.

Firhill will now be his adopted home.

I wonder if we’ll see him driving a hearse to make a few extra quid in the near future?
