When Julian Araujo made his debut during the dismal 3-1 loss to the Ibrox side at Celtic Park last January, he probably didn’t have much of a clue about the rivalry between both clubs prior to then.
Fast forward two months, and now he completely gets it.
He gets it so much, he’s completely immersed in this title race.
Even though Araujo is currently only on loan at the club, its doubtful anyone will celebrate more than he will at Celtic if we manage to win this title.
To anybody looking at the relationship that has developed between him and the fans, Celtic and Araujo appear to be a match made in heaven.
All of this comes with the added bonus on top that he is a very decent player.
Last week, I wrote an article where I stated that some of the players brought in during the January transfer window simply weren’t good enough to wear the hoops.
Out of the 6 that Celtic brought in, Araujo is the only one who 100% deserves to wear the hoops.

The others have yet to prove that they are.
And I include Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in that group because he hasn’t quite shown what he’s capable of yet either.
He has definitely shown us flashes of brilliance.
But what we need for the remainder of this season is consistent brilliance.
From everyone.
Because that’s now what its going to take to win this title.
And Julian Araujo has shown us that consistency since he joined Celtic.
Granted, he hasn’t set the world alight in every game he has played, but he has been consistent.
His commitment to the cause cannot be questioned either.
The rapport he formed with the fans at Rugby Park was in evidence again on Sunday.
As soon as Reo Hatate scored the equaliser after three attempts from a penalty, Araujo ran straight to the Celtic fans in the corner at Ibrox.
Its clear that throughout his career, Araujo never experienced fans like ours.
Now that he has, he absolutely loves it.
Which ultimately makes Celtic and Araujo a match made in heaven.

Now that we’ve set all of that side, what are the real stumbling blocks here?
Well, the Celtic board is the first one.
If, God forbid, Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay are still in place for the summer transfer window, I think its fair to say this could be a non-runner.
Because in order to secure Julian Araujo’s permanent signature, well, that involves something the board are allergic to.
Spending.
Spending with money.
It won’t matter how good a player Araujo is.
Nor will it matter if he helps us to secure this title, if the price isn’t right for Silent Mike – and ultimately – the golfing billionaire, he’ll be packing his bags and heading south to Dean Court.
Back to the boring, soulless, passionless EPL.
To play in front of 12,000 reserved fans.
Who would probably have a heart attack if celebrations – the like of which we witnessed at Rugby Park recently – erupted at their quiet seaside stadium.
Where Araujo would most likely have to kick his heels on the bench again, while yearning for the raw racousness of the Scottish Premiership.
With the only consolation being he’d have a decent EPL wage at the end of each week.
I think, though, that Araujo knows there’s more to football than just money by now.
Playing at Celtic has certainly taught him that much.
He did, after all, say that scoring the winning goal at Rugby Park was one of the best experiences of his life.
Does anyone think he’ll replicate that at exciting Bournemouth?
The ideal scenario here is that a malcontent like Dom McKay becomes CEO at Celtic again, and starts wildly paying clubs what they think their players are worth.
Imagine that?
Poor Dom had the misfortune of making that mistake at Celtic.
Ultimately, he paid for it with his job.
Meanwhile, Celtic made almost £40 million in transfer fees after selling the players Dom McKay paid £14.5 million for.
Shocking.
As for Julian Araujo?
I guess it boils to what Bournemouth think he’s worth.
That’s most likely a figure that will cause Silent Mike to shit himself.
And then doubly shit himself when he has to tell the billionaire golfer.
We all know what Julian Araujo is worth to Celtic right now.
Its the twats who run our club who just haven’t got a clue.
I’d love if he became a Celtic player.
But under the current regime, that’s a pipe dream.
A man can still dream though.
Even if they’re pipe dreams, and I’m not an opium pipe smoker either…
Key Takeaways
- Julian Araujo has quickly understood the Celtic rivalry and has shown great commitment to the club.
- Despite being on loan, Araujo has consistently performed better than other January signings, including Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
- Celtic’s board may jeopardise Araujo’s permanent signing due to their reluctance to spend money.
- Playing for Celtic offers Araujo a passionate football experience, unlike the quieter atmosphere at Bournemouth.
- The chances of Araujo becoming a permanent Celtic player depend on the club’s willingness to match Bournemouth’s valuation.
Celtic must sign him. FULL STOP.
Do we even have the option to buy wouldn’t surprise me if that’s a no no. Adam Idah springs to mind. At least we’re 1 up at Pittodrie
Only way we sign him is if AJ is off for a substantial fee after performances at the World Cup.
