Yesterday morning, I wrote an article on the fact that it was likely we’d play the Ibrox side at Celtic Park early on during the post-split fixtures.
I based this on the commentary from former SPFL Fixtures chief, Ian Blair.
As it turns out, I wasn’t too far wrong in my assumptions.
I thought we might get them early, and I said I would prefer it that way so that we could get it out of the way, and take 3 precious points off them.
As it turns out, we got them mid-way through the split, on Sunday the 10th of May.
The SPFL planned it pretty much the way they wanted it, to avoid a title decider, and the obvious ramifications of that, after what happened at Ibrox a month ago.
Under no circumstances did they want a repeat of that.
There was always the potential for something like that to happen if a title decider took place at Celtic Park.

Once the post-split fixture list dropped yesterday, the Ibrox fans went into meltdown.
‘Cheating’ and ‘corruption’ was on the agenda immediately.
It was ‘set up for Celtic to win it’.
Unbeknownst to them, there is a delicious irony in all of this.
Last month, the media was at pains to paint Celtic fans as the perpetrators of the now infamous scenes at Ibrox.
But if you really think clearly about it, what would have happened if it had just ended with some over exuberant celebrations from the Celtic fans?
What if the Ibrox marvel heroes had just stayed in the stands?
Would the post-split fixture list have been more favourable to them?
We’ll never know for certain.
But what we do know is that they could be out of this title race by the time the full-time whistle blows at Celtic Park on May 10th.
Now, it was always going to be unlikely that the SPFL ever would have set the fixture list up in such a way that a title decider could happen at Celtic Park.
The logistics and police operation for such an event would have been off the scale.
As well as the risk of more violence from the Onion bear marvel superheroes.
But if the Ibrox fans had not charged onto the field and attacked Celtic fans a month ago, there’s a distinct chance the fixture might have been slightly more favourable to them.
The potential title decider is at Celtic Park now.
But it involves us and Hearts.
Who, by the way, are also raging about that.
They believe that because they will be top going into the split, they deserved to play the final fixture at home.
Maybe they have a right to be pissed off about that, but its all they can complain about really.
As for the Ibrox side?
Well, if they travel to Tynecastle on the 4th of May and suffer defeat, and then travel to Celtic Park on the 10th, and suffer defeat again, its all over for them.
Meaning any threat of violence from their fans also dies with those potential defeats.
They would be out of the running if we’ve won our fixtures against Falkirk and Hibs, Hearts win the Edinburgh derby – and then if the Jambos take 3 points off them – we would put the final nail in the coffin by beating them at Celtic Park.
Their season could conceivably be over with two fixtures still remaining.
This is what’s driving their fans over the edge since the fixtures were released.

What is delicious in all of this is the possibility that their actions at Ibrox a month ago might have had a big influence on this.
As I said, we’ll never know for sure.
But you get the feeling it did play a part in it.
Even if it did or it didn’t, its still a joy to watch them in meltdown.
Its still hilarious they think everything is set up to favour us.
The bottom line here is this, whoever accumulates the most points in this run in wins the title.
Regardless of the fixture set up.
Are Celtic well poised to do that?
Well, you’d have to say now that the Green Brigade is back, yes we are.
It seems like everything is falling into place at the right time.
Exactly the right time…
Key Takeaways
- The SPFL scheduled the Celtic vs Ibrox match for May 10th, avoiding a title decider after recent events at Ibrox.
- Ibrox fans reacted negatively to the fixture list, accusing it of favouring Celtic.
- Celtic could eliminate Ibrox from the title race if it wins its upcoming matches against Falkirk and Hibs.
- Hearts are also unhappy with the fixture setup, believing they deserve to host the final match.
- Celtic appears well-positioned to win the title, especially with the support of the Green Brigade returning.

The split may have been kind ,but Desmond and his cabal are responsible for this car crash of a season and that should not be forgotten, if we do indeed win the league it will be down to Martin O’Neil and his skill as a manager and diplomacy with the fans ,this should not be in any way used to cut slack on Desmond and his cabal. Stop giving them your money
ONION BEAR MARVEL SUPERHEROES, you’re a funny man, thanks for that, I’ll be spreading it around. I can’t wait for a noisy Parkhead this Saturday
It’ll be a miracle if we win the league as we are absolutely hopeless.
No tactics, players who wouldn’t get a game at the fives if you were a man short……
