There are rumours doing the rounds over the last few days that Tottenham are interested in Benjamin Nygren.
Before I go any further on this particular subject, I need to make a few points relevant to our club’s position on this.
Do I think this board would sell the only player who has been a prolific goal scorer for us this season?
Absolutely.
No question.
They spent £1.2 million on Nygren.
Does anybody imagine they wouldn’t jump at the chance to make a huge profit on him?
Tottenham would probably offer stupid money, along with stupid wages to Nygren himself.
The well being, progression, and growth of the team wouldn’t even come into it for the Celtic board.
So certain am I that they’d sell him, I’d put my house on it.
After what they did to the team in 2025, I’d be a fool to think otherwise.
I wrote an article on Friday about Callum McGregor.
McGregor stated that he would stay at Celtic if the club matched his ambitions.
Would Celtic selling Benjamin Nygren equate to matching those ambitions?

Kind of a no brainer really, isn’t it?
As for the player himself?
Nygren is young, only 24, so there’s no doubt interest from the EPL would turn his head.
But Tottenham?
If that’s the extent of his ambition as a player, then he doesn’t really have any ambition at all.
First of all, it’s starting to look more and more likely that Tottenham will be a Championship side by the end of this season.
They don’t seem to be showing any signs of pulling their way out of that last relegation spot in the EPL.
Spurs couldn’t hold out for the win against Matt O’Riley’s Brighton last on the weekend before last, conceding a 95th minute equaliser.
They scraped a 1-0 win at Wolves last Saturday.
That still didn’t get them out of the relegation places because their closest rivals West Ham also won.
Do they have the stomach for the fight to survive?
With away fixtures coming up against Aston Villa and Chelsea in their final 4 fixtures, their chances look ominous.
If they lose to Aston Villa on Saturday, they are in big trouble.
To a degree, it looks like karma is coming to get them.
This time a year ago, they were in a Europa League final, which they went on to win.
Former Celtic boss, Ange Postecoglou, was sacked for that acheivement.
The way the hierarchy of that club has treated it’s managers is abysmal.
Now it looks like the chickens are coming home to roost.
I doubt anyone would shed a tear for them if they did get relegated.
Which makes me wonder why someone like Benjamin Nygren would want to move to them?
Its obvious the only reason he would move there would be for the money.
It certainly wouldn’t be to enhance his career prospects, that’s for sure.
Now that Celtic are well and truly back in this title race, Nygren could very well be on the cusp of playing Champions League football next season.
Champions League or Championship?
That’s the kind of decision he could be faced with if Tottenham come calling.
You would hope that he and Celtic make a decision that will be to the betterment of his career, rather than his and the club’s bank balance.
Celtic should reject any bids for Nygren out of hand.

We have a monumental rebuild coming up this summer.
Selling a 20 goal midfielder during that process would really be completely counter productive.
Especially after only one season.
Let’s hope that sanity prevails in this situation.
Although, that’s hard to expect in a season that’s been rife with insanity.
But we live in hope…
Key Takeaways
- Tottenham reportedly shows interest in Benjamin Nygren, but Celtic should not sell him.
- The Celtic board would likely sell Nygren for a profit, regardless of team performance.
- Moving to Tottenham may not enhance Nygren’s career; he could play Champions League football with Celtic instead.
- Celtic needs to reject any bids for Nygren to support a significant rebuild planned for the summer.
- Selling a key player like Nygren after just one season would undermine the team’s progress.
