Fir Park Suddenly Becomes Celtic’s Focus.
Motherwell v Hearts tomorrow suddenly feels far bigger than our game this weekend vs them.
An odd feeling but one that describes how this season has played out.
From our perspective, this match could shape the title race. But I also think it could shape our future managerial choice.
This already feels like the biggest game of Jens Berthel Askou’s future Celtic managerial career.
If we want any chance of keeping pressure on Hearts, then Motherwell need something from this game.
A win changes everything. Even a draw keeps us alive.
That makes Fir Park the centre of attention.
Why Askou’s Reputation Keeps Growing
I completely understand why Askou’s name continues appearing beside Celtic.

At just 43, he has transformed Motherwell into the league’s most exciting side in terms of style.
His team plays aggressively, presses high and stays tactically organised.
Fir Park has become a nightmare venue for opponents.
Only Falkirk have won there this season, and they managed it twice. A haunting prospect for us next week.
Motherwell have also conceded only nine home league goals. That is the best defensive home record in the league.
That level of structure does not happen accidentally.
I look at Motherwell now and see identity everywhere.
That matters massively when people discuss future Celtic managers.
Hearts Already Know The Difficulty Askou’s Team Pose
The previous meetings between these sides already showed Motherwell’s quality.
The first match ended 3-3 after Motherwell somehow lost control from a dominant position.
Even then, they caused Hearts huge problems going forward.
The second meeting finished 0-0 at Fir Park.
Hearts played cautiously because they respected Motherwell’s attacking threat.
Then came the 3-1 Hearts win last month.
But honestly, that scoreline flattered Hearts slightly.
Motherwell created chances throughout and lacked only clinical finishing.
That should worry Hearts heading into tomorrow.
Especially after their “emotional” title-winning comeback victory against Sevco at Tynecastle as the media would have you believe…
The Pressure Celtic Managers Must Handle
For me, this game feels like a genuine managerial audition.
Motherwell already damaged Sevco’s title hopes with that stunning 3-2 win.
Can Askou prepare his side properly? Can he handle expectation? Can he deliver tactically in another massive game?
Those questions matter because he does not get a result. Some fans may hold it against him.
We’ve never forgotten what Scott McDonald did to us. I doubt we’d forget this.
If Askou does get a result. It could benefit his future.
I actually think Askou’s biggest achievement involves changing perceptions around Motherwell completely.
They look modern, fearless and ambitious under him.
That reflects brilliantly on Scottish football overall and could attract more exciting players to Celtic if he becomes the manager.
The Three Musketeers
Tawanda Maswanhise, Elijah Just, and Elliot Watt have been linked to Celtic. It will be interesting to see how each of these players perform tomorrow.
Maswanhise runs directly, attacks defenders aggressively and carries real athleticism.
I think his unpredictability makes him interesting.

Celtic always need forwards capable of creating chaos physically, especially with Maeda being rumoured to be on his way out.
This game gives him another opportunity to show he can perform under pressure.
Elijah Just also feels like someone playing for bigger opportunities.
His pace immediately stands out. Many pundits have said he is Motherwell’s best player.
I like his willingness to attack space quickly and commit defenders one-versus-one.
That profile always works at Celtic. I previously discussed that Yang and Tounekti don’t do this enough.
Especially when modern football increasingly demands direct wide players.
A strong performance here only increases discussion around him.
Elliott Watt probably suits this occasion best.
He controls tempo calmly and keeps Motherwell organised centrally.
Every successful Celtic side needs midfielders capable of handling pressure physically and technically.
Watt increasingly looks comfortable doing both.
Saturday Could Mean More Than Three Points
For me, this is a season-defining game for not only this but also next.
If Motherwell beat Hearts, we remain alive in the race.
If they draw, pressure still exists.
If Hearts win, our margin for error almost disappears completely.
That creates massive tension before we even play.
But beyond the title race, this also feels like a showcase.
Askou faces another huge test.
Several Motherwell players face major auditions too.
And if Motherwell deliver again, then Askou will deserve a lap of honour before he’s even set foot into Lennoxtown.

Then attention will turn to Sunday. A win is needed – nothing else will do.
Key Takeaways
- Fir Park could shape both the title race and Jens Berthel Askou’s future at Celtic.
- Askou has transformed Motherwell into a competitive team, making Fir Park a tough venue for opponents.
- Motherwell’s previous matches indicate their quality, and Hearts should be wary of their attacking threat.
- This game acts as a managerial audition for Askou, testing his tactical ability and handling of pressure.
- Saturday’s match could have significant implications for the season, affecting both title hopes and player futures.
It will have little to do with him auditioning for the Celtic job and fully dependent on his Motherwell team (Deservedly) guaranteeing European football next year.
HH
You seem to think he’s got the Celtic job which does excite me but also make me wonder if he can cope with the basic expectation of winning the league in Scotland every time.
The Motherwell stats you list are very impressive and give me some hope that they might take some points off hearts tonight.
It’s funny but every time Yang or Tounetki get the ball I’m like ‘ oh no we will lose the ball now’, because 99 out of 100 times that’s what happens. Compare that to the excitement when say Jota gets the ball.
A draw does us greatly, we’d then have it in our own hands, id prefer a win for Well, but if offered now id take the draw.
What happens midweek? Does he try to beat us or what?
