They say a stopped clock is right twice a day, and while that might be true, Hugh Keevins cannot even achieve what a stopped clock can.
There is getting it right sometimes.
And then there is never, ever getting it right at all.
Keevins falls into the never, ever getting it right category.
On the 19th of April last, Keevins wrote a doozy of an article on Celtic’s title chances.
In a follow up article, I said I would reference it when the season was over.
It’s taken me till now to get around to it, but here’s a bit of insight into what I said at the time:
But if we do pull it off, (winning the title) I will be waiting eagerly at my keyboard to quote Hugh Keevins’ “zero per cent” prediction.
It will be the sweetest of takedowns should it come to pass.
So, I’ll park it for now.
I’ll leave it alone either forever more, or until May 16th.
Well, I guess I left it alone until the 20th.
I had plenty of other content to focus on in the aftermath of Saturday, but I was never going to forget about Shug.
His “Zero per cent” article now ranks alongside one of his most infamous articles over the years.
That was – of course – his A N G E article.
He has never been allowed to live that one down, he can now add this one to his repetoire as well.
Of course the Ibrox side were Keevins’ favourites for the title.

And on April 19th, it was all looking rosy in the garden going heading into the split.
They were in second spot in the table, awaiting the first game after the split.
Their task was simple, win those 5 games and they would be Champions.
They believed.
The Keevins predicted, and that was the end of that.
Two games into the split, and defeats to Motherwell and Hearts all but ended their title hopes.
Arriving at Celtic Park, they still had a mathematical chance, even then they shat the bed.
The curse of the old mystic, Hugh “Nostradamus” Keevins, killed off any hopes they had.
Then is it was a two horse race.
Fate and fact, he said.

Old Shug hung depserately onto the crumbs of hope that Hearts might do it, but deep down, he knew they wouldn’t.
He knew that his old nemesis, Celtic, were going to come back to haunt him, just as we’ve done every time he has predicted our downfall.
I mean, wouldn’t Shug’s life just be so much easier if he predicted that Celtic would win the title?
Then we’d surely lose it, wouldn’t we?
But we didn’t, much to his chagrin.
Instead, in two of their last 3 games, Hearts shat the bed as well.

I think that X post kind of sums it up, don’t you?
Poor ol’ Shug.
He tries so hard to be a shock jock.
But as I said at the time in my article on his “zero per cent” prediction, when it comes to his predictability, there’s about as much shock in Shug as an almost dead 9 volt battery, and much less in his jocks, but I’ll leave that one alone.
Now we all know he’ll come back stronger next season.

He’ll come back with more outlandish predictions.
He’ll most likely damn the Ibrox side to another trophyless season by predicting they’ll win the League after matchday one.
For now, all we can do is celebrate Shug.
He’s the gift that just keeps on giving.
I’m sure he’ll give us some more beauties next season.
But just remember, zero per cent in Shug’s world translates into title winner.
Please don’t ever change, Hugh.
Keep doing what you’re doing, and we’ll keep getting what we’re getting – title after title.
Anybody fancy placing a bet that he’ll predict Dunfermline will win the Scottish Cup final?
Anyone?
Anyone?

Eric, he was a decent writer for The Scotsman as were the great John Rafferty and then Glenn Gibbons, both like Hugh from a Celtic background. His downfall, I believe, started when somebody fed him the line that Artur Jorge would take over as boss after Tommy Burns. He splashed this The Scotsman…and in came…Wim Jansen. I dont think he ever forgave the ‘inside’ info he had been given. His brother , Fr Frank Keevins, is more a Celtic man than that deluded bozo of a brother whose moral integrity must now be at 0%.
Hope you are still grinning after Saturday, Eric. I know I am
I will be quite upset if the dinosaur retires. Let’s be honest it’s always a shootin in when he predicates anything. Celtic 0% chance.
Celtic 100% winners.
