So apparently Danny Rohl and Mordor’s big idea is signing “R****ers men”.
It will be interesting to see how Celtic respond to this trend or how quickly we will roll over it to a sixth league title in a year’s time.
Really Danny, this is the plan?

Shankland.
James Penrice.
Luke Graham.
Lewis Ferguson as the “prodigal son”
Groundbreaking stuff.
None of these signings lead me to believe they are going to topple over us to the title.
It’s laughable they think they do.
Or, more accurately, recycled stuff with a different player name.
We hear this story a lot.
“Players who understand the club.”
“Scottish backbone.”
“Proper R***ers men.”
As if the issue over the last few years was players not understanding what the badge means, rather than, you know… finishing third.
Third.
That’s the bit that always gets quietly skipped over when the “we’re back” speeches start flying every pre-season.
Not second.
Third.
Behind one of our worst teams in decades and an overrated Hearts side, and you still came third after spending 40 Million.
This idea that signing Scottish players is some kind of tactical breakthrough is hilarious.
It’s not a strategy.
Last year it was “modern European structure” and “data-driven recruitment”.
Now it’s this? Wow…
Shankland — Scotland’s most “deadly finisher”
To be fair, you could’ve predicted this about three years ago.
Out of contract.
Scores goals in Scotland.
Boyhood fan links.
It’s the most obvious signing imaginable.
He’ll probably arrive, score a few in pre-season, get called “proper leadership” and be their new captain, and by October someone’s already suggesting he’s not quality to be in the club.
Standard procedure.

People say he’s Scotland’s best finisher; I’m not sure about that…
Lewis Ferguson — The Dream Signing That Fixes Everything (Apparently).
Apparently Lewis Ferguson is rumoured to be coming in? How they are affording this I don’t know.
Maybe it’s just media talk.
But they’d love to sign him.
Scottish.
Midfield engine.
And of course, the emotional hook: the “prodigal son” returning.
Realistically, though, if a player is doing well in Serie A and suddenly decides the big move is back to Scotland, there are usually two possibilities:
Either he’s incredibly sentimental…
Or he’s getting a big pay cheque…
And let’s be honest — nobody is swapping Bologna away for Mordor in their prime unless something very persuasive is happening in the background.
Where’s this money coming from as well?
Danny Rohl’s Big Gamble To Beat Celtic
And then there’s Rohl.
You can already see how this ends.
A couple of draws in August, and he’ll be gone.
And then the managerial cycle begins again.
Because let’s not pretend this is new.
They’ve finished third.
They have decided to back their manager for a rebuild.
They’ll talk about standards and declare themselves back.
And he’ll be sacked not long after that.
Kevin Muscat: Waiting In The Wings
And then there’s the inevitable “next man up” conversation already floating around.
Kevin Muscat gets mentioned a lot.

Which, from a football point of view, is quite something.
Because you’re talking about a bloke whose highlight reel as a player is a series of borderline assault charges.
From “we need identity and style” straight to “here’s Kevin Muscat; he gets the club, and here are lots of players who grew up supporting the club.”
If he becomes their manager, it will be one of the dirtiest R***ers’ sides we’ve seen in years, I guarantee it.
Same Story, Different Summer. Celtic Have No Need To Worry. Danny Rohl Does Though
Every year it’s the same thing.
New signings and hope.
“Simply The Best” still getting rolled out.
Scottish players in.
Identity talk ramped up.
Third place quietly ignored and forgotten.
‘Rebuild’ is declared.
Repeat.
This will be fun to watch next season, I have no doubt.
Key Takeaways
- The club’s strategy of signing ‘R***ers men’ lacks originality, focusing on Scottish players with emotional ties rather than performance.
- Recent signings like Shankland and Ferguson raise questions about their effectiveness and financial implications for the club.
- Management cycles continue with Danny Rohl, who may face early criticism if results don’t improve quickly.
- Speculation around Kevin Muscat’s potential management suggests a return to a physical style of play.
- The pattern of hope and slogans repeats annually, despite finishing third and ongoing issues with club performance.
I would not be so quick to criticise Rangers signings. At least they are quick out the traps and started to prepare. We are at the mercy of our dysfunctional board. We will lose quality players in this window and who would be brave enough to think the suits will get it right with signings. Going by the last few years, that will never happen with these useless articles in charge. If we lose Maeda, Engels and Hatate, I really fear next season. I can’t see where your optimism to win the league next season comes from when you have written countless articles about how bad this board is. No manager named yet for god sake. I have the fear about the disaster awaiting with these clowns at the helm
Dan, I would never in any way exonerate our hapless feckless reckless clueless board, but along with everything else being rinse and repeat, we will be in top spot this time next year. I have zero worries about Ibrox’s quick out of the traps signings and the Rohl experiment. In our worst state in a decade, or at least on a par with Covid season, we still come away with a double. Rohl is no different to every manager they’ve had in years, bar GVB; buzz words, excuses, mitigation, moral victories rather than on the pitch victories.
Don’t get that optimism, let’s face it, if Maeda had not hit top gear when he did, we would not have won the league. It’s likely he won’t be here next season so not sure why we are a stick on to win the title again. This board really worries me
I am nervously waiting to see the quality of our signings pre season and who the manager is. Remember we almost paid 3m for Mvuka, who couldn’t get on livingstons team.
If the board continues to treat the supporters like crap and continues with corporate greed and austerity, then we will know what we really have to do stop giving them your money or you are complicit
