Yesterday, the ultras group Bhoys Celtic left a banner outside Celtic Park which bluntly told Dermot Desmond and Robbie Keane what they thought of them.
If Robbie Keane does get the job, this banner is an early indicator of how the appointment will be met.
I wrote a fairly substantial article on the subject yesterday, which in turn, generated a lot of debate.
There are quite a lot of fans out there who would actually welcome the appointment.
But equally, there are plenty who cannot stand the idea of it.
Which proves that the appointment – if it happens – would be what we’ve predicted it would be, totally divisive.
Personally, I don’t want Keane next or near our club.
But that’s just me.
I laid out the reasons for that pretty clearly yesterday.
The majority of them are footballing.
In my view, he’s just not good enough to be the manager of a club of Celtic’s size.

Couple that with his past managerial connections – and as I said – this appointment is doomed to failure.
I would also be concerned about Keane’s ability to handle the media in Scotland.
I’m not sure he has the charisma of previous Celtic managers, but that’s a story for another day.
If he gets the job, we’ll soon find out how he handles the media.
Needless to say, the doors to fan media certainly won’t be re-opened if he’s appointed.
Yesterday, I know the Bhoys Celtic were trying to express their feelings in the plainest, simplest, even crudest language they could.
It read as follows:
“Desmond’s and Keane fuck off”
Do I agree with it?
Well, I want the Desmond’s gone, and I certainly don’t want Robbie Keane at Celtic, so yes, I suppose I do.
I made plain my reasons for wanting the Desmond’s gone in yesterday’s article.
Note that the banner says Desmond’s, rather than Desmond.
Which means it is specifically aimed at Dermot Desmond’s son, Ross, as well.
After his performance at last years AGM, it is clear to see why nobody would want him near the club.
If he were to step into his father’s shoes at Celtic, then God help us all.
While the banner is crudely effective in its wording, I fear it will have the total opposite effect to what it says.
As I stated yesterday, the only way the reign of Dermot Desmond ends is when he’s six feet under, or ash in the wind.
Desmond will look at that banner, and his attitude will be, “f*** them, I’ll hire Robbie Keane to spite them now”.
If you don’t believe that, then look at his past behaviours when he’s been met with adversity from the fans.

Rather than save our 10 in a row season, and give us the chance to create history, he stuck with Neil Lennon out of spite.
We all know how that particular debacle ended.
Desmond preferred to prove his point than make the ultimate history for Celtic.
That shows how spiteful an individual he can be.
Does anybody think he won’t look at that banner, and react spitefully to it either?
I fear that all that banner will do is galvanise Desmond when it comes to hiring Robbie Keane.
We are now at the mercy of Martin O’Neill, who we’re told Desmond is meeting today in London for talks.
We have to pray he says he’s taking the job for another year.
Otherwise, we will be getting Robbie Keane.
Especially if the below X post from Anthony Joseph is anything to go by:
UPDATE: Celtic have held constructive talks with Robbie Keane over their managerial vacancy.
— Anthony Joseph (@AnthonyRJoseph) June 3, 2026
Further discussions are scheduled.
Principal shareholder Dermot Desmond is also due to gauge Martin O’Neill’s appetite for remaining at the club in some capacity.

I think we can accept that despite what the banner requests, Dermot Desmond will be going nowhere.
And he will hire Robbie Keane if wants to hire Robbie Keane.
Despite the sentiments of a large chunk of the fanbase.
This is the way things work in a despot dictatorship.
Voices of dissent are crushed.
And you can be sure they will continue to be crushed.
“We learned lessons from last year”, they said.
You cannot learn when you have an individual at the top of the club who is unwilling to learn from any past f*** ups.
He will do it his way.
And f*** the begrudgers, as the Irish would say.
Desmond lives and breathes that mantra.
Much to our very detriment.
Key Takeaways

- Fans remain divided over the potential appointment of Robbie Keane, with many strongly opposing it.
- The author believes Keane lacks the qualifications to manage a club like Celtic and fears his media handling skills.
- The banner’s crude message may backfire, galvanizing Desmond’s resolve to hire Keane despite fan protests.
- There’s a prevailing sense that Desmond will ignore dissent and operate the club as he sees fit, regardless of public opinion.

I am pretty sure he wont be too troubled if the fans boycott which could lead to god knows what.
The millions he initially spent on his shares are chump change to him, if the club goes under he wont have trouble sleeping.
I can’t believe there are no rules on ownership, shareholding etc that cannot be enacted to stop someone deliberately killing a business!!!
I myself am not in the yes or no camp with Keene , I’m a Celtic supporter of Irish descent, my great grandfather & great grandmother both came over from Ireland, I give money to various charities, outrage & genocide happens all over the world, sad as it is , but the person we should be angry at is DD , simply because he is a dictator of sorts with yes men around him , Celtic fans I believe should continue to protest against him , if successful then the rest of the dominoes will follow if & when he is removed , so my question is try & get behind the management team the players and continue to protest in other useful ways, HH
All you fools who renewed your season tickets were warned that this would happen I’ve got your money now fuck off
Spot on.
This is already done and dusted, and Keane is in contention, one cause he’s Irish, and two, to kick the fans in the balls for having the gall to stand up to him. The banner will have zero effect, as he already knows what we think of him, and more importantly that we know how much he’s fu..ed up our club , appeasing bullies does not work, it achieves nothing.
This spiteful flat track bully would gladly burn Celtic to the ground, and see the fans burn with it. This is exemplified by the way he runs the club, or mis-runs it, he has no regard for anyone or anything but himself, your example of the ten in a row season, and his actions this season, clearly show that. Even though Martin and the Fans came to the clubs rescue this season, he’ll still f..k it up them, he cannot be wrong, and ofc reckons all the credit due is to him.
This I fear is going to be a long drawn out war of attrition, and before we get rid of him, probably when he dies, we will have been firmly put in our place next to Sevco. The huge lead and advantage Celtic had accrued, will be squandered on the alter of Desmond’s vanity.
Ps. To anyone who thinks genocide has nothing to do with Keane, go look at the edicts produced as a result of the Nuremberg trials, you either fight the perpetrators, or you are with them. Does the statement that there are no get outs, no excuses, like ‘I was only taking orders, or doing what was expected, or just doing my job, ring a bell?.
Jim get a grip , Isreal is responsible for genocide , like it or not , Keane did not start this , he probably made a bad footballing decision, stick to the people responsible for our problems, fair enough if you don’t fancy Keane & I don’t either, because of one bad decision on his part fine , don’t blame him for the madness that Isreal is responsible for , I’m sure he would think twice the next time a position came up in a war torn country.
Can’t agree more strongly with the season tickets paid up yet again statement
