Why is Celtic in a total state of paralysis at the moment? The men who could answer that question simply won’t

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been getting it tight from a lot of angles due to my constant criticism of the Celtic board.

People seem to think that I’m only focused on being negative, and that I have nothing good to say about the club.

There’s an old saying that never ages.

You give credit, where credit is due.

It’s a pretty simple one really.

So I’ll further simplify it.

If the Celtic board were due any credit for their actions as custodians of Celtic Football Club, then I would be the first in line to give it to them.

But when I’m called a bedwetter for criticising the handling of the coaching situation at the club, just because it was sorted on the eve of pre-season training?

Then I question the kind of planet people who think that kind of behaviour is acceptable live on.

Believe it or not, these same people look at this as business well handled.

This is our ‘world class’ board getting things done.

The fact that they’ve hired Ross Grant is now seen as some sort of brilliant masterstroke.

And who knows, maybe it will be?

But in order for it to be, he needs to have some players to train as a set piece coach.

In addition to this, it’s clear that the main threat from set pieces at Celtic, Arne Engels, will be gone before the season starts.

So, who does Ross Grant work with then?

Benjamin Nygren?

Whoops! He could be gone too, as he is also classed a ‘valuable asset’.

Now, all of this would not really worry me too much if we were actively looking for replacements before these ‘assets’ move on.

But this never happens at Celtic.

High value assets must be sold first and then the board might consider bringing replacements in.

Might, being the operative word.

You only have to look back at last summer to see that we don’t necessarily replace departing players.

We didn’t replace Kyogo Furuhashi in the Janauary 2025 window, and then we didn’t bother to replace him again in the 2025 summer window.

No, in fact we decided it was a smart move to sell another striker.

And not bother to replace him either.

Before than, we sold our most prolific winger in Nikolas Kuhn.

In the space of 6 months, we had asset stripped 60+ goals out of the team.

In season 24/25, Celtic scored 112 goals.

Then, in season 25/26, we scored just 73.

That’s a difference of 39 goals on one season.

This is just one example of the incompetence of the board, and how it came very close to costing us the title last season.

Yet here we are, just 31 days from start of the Scottish Premiership, with not one single signing made.

We are in a complete state of paralysis.

Meanwhile, players flood into Tynecastle and Ibrox.

But we cannot even manage to muster a decent rumour when it comes to a signing.

Most stories we’re reading at the moment focus on ‘Celtic targets’ moving to other clubs.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract has expired, with no meaningful talks between Celtic of the player’s agent to renew it.

But hey, what have we got to worry about?

Shin Yamada is back in the building!

He who managed last season to score a sum total of…..

Zero. Zilch. Nada.

Maik Nawrocki is back too, and guess what the board apologists are saying?

These guys will be like new signings to Martin O’Neill.

At the rate things are going, it looks like they could be the only new signings he gets!

As I said earlier on, I would give credit to the Celtic board if it was due to them.

But how can I give them credit for any of this??

Look, I’d love to be writing happy, positive and interesting stories about prospective incoming transfers.

I actually get jealous when I look at Ibrox News, and it’s full of transfer stories.

What do we have?

Nothing.

Not a single story.

Paralysis.

Stasis.

And to some people, this is still to be lauded.

It is still to be seen as ‘world class’.

Ingenious behaviour by people who know exactly what they’re doing.

I shit you not.

There are still people out there defending this.

Trust the process.

They know what they’re doing, you bedwetter, what do you know anyway??

How do you know what’s going on behind the scenes??

I’ll tell you what I do f***ing know, I know NOTHING when I see it.

And that’s exactly what this board is doing.

Absolutely nothing.

Total paralysis.

But never fear, Hugh Keevins came up with the perfect solution last Sunday.

Come back Peter Lawwell, all is forgiven.

F*** me, if this is what we’re reduced to, we might as well just throw the towel in.

But you know what??

You could actually see Dermot Desmond sacking Michael Nicholson and giving Peter Lawwell a phone call.

Which would go something like this, “Do you want to come back as CEO Peter? You’ve got 10 minutes to decide….”

Genuinely, nothing would surprise you anymore.

It’s no coincidence Lawwell was back in the papers last Sunday anyway.

He and Keevins are all buddy – buddy now, aren’t they?

Maybe he was feeling the temperature by getting Keevins to do a little piece on him?

This is what nothingness does.

It makes you think the unthinkable.

But is anything really unthinkable at Celtic any more?
