Six signings in the door at Ibrox, and more to come. Maybe Celtic’s charismatic CEO should call Mr. Cavenagh for some pointers?

It seems that the Ibrox hierarchy seem to completely grasp the understanding of a squad rebuild.

So far, they have over half a starting eleven in the door.

This morning, Cammy Devlin was announced.

In joining the club today, Devlin becomes the sixth addition of the summer transfer window.

That’s following the arrivals of Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Ivor Pandur and Dan Neil.

A striker, a defender, a centre-back, a keeper, and two defensive midfielders.

The kind of positions that are crying out to be filled at Celtic Park.

Yet, what have we got?

A single solitary signing in Camilo Duran.

Yes, we definitely need a striker, more than one – in fact – so I’m not complaining about that.

Now, a lot of people would say that I shouldn’t be watching what’s going on over at Ibrox.

I should be focusing on what’s going on at Celtic Park.

Believe me, I am.

But what is going on over at Ibrox puts what is going on at Celtic Park into sharp contrast.

Which makes it kind of hard to ignore.

Put simply, a rebuild at Ibrox versus sweet f*** all at Celtic Park.

We cannot even get deals tied up for players who were already at Celtic Park last season, let alone bring in the amount of players required for a rebuild.

Time is ticking away.

The season kicks off this day three weeks from now.

Our two main rivals are more than prepared for it, they are acting like professional football clubs should.

I know that I’ve been writing a fair bit about the Staunch revolution at Ibrox – which in its own right is laughable – but you cannot argue that they’re getting it right with their recruitment.

Now, I’ve no doubt the powers that be are working away in the background at Celtic Park.

I’m sure Silent Mike has invested in that long overdue (reconditioned) new state of the art fax machine, and the world class coffee machine is in overdrive at the moment.

However, there’s only one problem with all of this.

If, as we’re being led to believe, Camilo Duran cost us £6 million smackers, then the absent meddling golfer has probably treble bogeyed on an easy par 3, and has had to take some beta blockers.

I’m pretty sure the PTSD of all those £6 million signings back in 2000/01 is coming back to haunt him big time.

I don’t have to spell out what the next message will be from the absentee landlord, do I?

Celtic have spent before selling, and we all know that’s a big no no.

The golfing billionaire will be seething.

He will be demanding compensation.

Poor Silent Mike will be getting it in the ear, or apologies, over the fax-waves.

He will now be stunned like a rabbit in the headlights, not sure of what move to make next.

Maybe he should give Ibrox Executive Chairman Andrew Cavenagh a tinkle to find out how to really do this rebuilding lark?

Instead of waiting for coded, rage baiting fax messages from the golfing meddler in Barbados?

Because, to be fair, Mr. Cavenagh seems to know what he’s doing.

Perform a difficult re-build in quick time – Tick

Install a former Ibrox (Staunch) hero as Manager – Tick

Install of former Ibrox (Ultra Staunch) goalkeeping coach – Tick

Re-install the spirit of Jimmy Bell (Staunchiest of the Staunch) by appointing Jim McAlister as kitman – Tick

Job done.

Rapido.

No sweat.

Meanwhile, Silent Mike is faffing around waiting for a rage baiting fax.

Which won’t rage bait him because he’s too timid to become enraged, that’s why Dermo has him where he has him.

Levels and all that.

Ok, I’ve gone off message a bit here.

Silence invites speculation and all that, and I’m speculating and then some.

But you know what?

I’m probably not too wide of the mark on some of the things I’m saying.

It’s pretty simple really, the Ibrox side and Hearts have stolen a march on us.

Our response has been to do the square root of f*** all.

And you know what the square root of f*** all equates to?

F*** All!!”

Which is what we’ve done so far this summer.
