It has recently been reported by the Daily Record that Serie A side Sassuolo have scouted the young Scottish duo of Calvin Ramsey of Aberdeen and Josh Doig of Hibernian.

The report states that the duo were also watched by fellow Serie A side Cagliari when Aberdeen played Hibernian last weekend.

It will be interesting to see if Celtic have scouted those players, as the Hoops will surely be well-aware of the players that have been performing well in the Scottish Premiership.

Ramsey has been one of Aberdeen’s better players this season. The 18-year-old has made 30 appearances for the Pittodrie club this season, providing an impressive nine assists.

19 left-back Doig has been a mainstay for the Easter Road side this season, making 35 appearances.

There has been interest in the players in the past. Hibernian rejected a reported £2.5m bid from Watford for Doig last summer.

In January, Serie A side Bologna reportedly bid £4.8m for the Aberdeen teenager.

Should the Hoops decide to move for either full-back, it seems that they will need to pay a lot of money to make the transfer happen.

The question that Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou will be asking himself is are the transfers value for money, and would either player get in the Celtic side?

The money situation could be an issue, as paying over £4m for a player in a struggling Aberdeen side might be a bit too expensive for the Hoops. Although it could also be argued that Ramsey could be at Celtic for years, and then the Bhoys could look to sell the player on for a profit, and the same is true of Doig.

As for would either player get into the Celtic side, that is not guaranteed. Doig would give Greg Taylor competition for the left-back role, whilst it is unlikely that at this stage Ramsey would feature in the Hoops first-team, with Josip Juranovic and Anthony Ralston currently battling it out to be the first choice right-back.

If the Hoops were going to make a move for any of the duo in the summer then it would most likely be Doig. He has more chance of making the Celtic first-team, as he would likely only have Greg Taylor as any real competition for his position.

It will be intriguing to see if Celtic elect to sign players from the Scottish Premiership this summer. Since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou, the Hoops have yet to sign a player from Scotland. Perhaps that will change in the summer, and either Doig or Ramsey could be the first.
