Alan Hutton believes talks between Celtic and Marian Shved about the winger’s future are understandable, and he makes a strong point as to why.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton suggested the Ukraine international may have underestimated the challenge he was set to face at Celtic prior to joining, and that talks about his future need to happen so he has clarity.
It’s a difficult one because we haven’t seen much of him. Sometimes this happens, you come into a football club and the demands are so high that you’re not used to it. You’re expected to get to a certain level in training and games and it’s not quite worked out.
You see it quite a lot with Rangers and Celtic, certain players come in and it doesn’t really work out but I’m sure like any footballer, you want to know what’s happening in the future and moving forward. I totally understand the talks.
It’s difficult, people think maybe going to Scotland, they’ll go there and score goals, it’ll be nice and easy or whatever. It’s tough, people shouldn’t underestimate the league. To be at one of the top teams you have to prove that on a weekly basis.

Shved has only made three substitute appearances for the first-team this season, totalling just 40 minutes of football across the whole campaign so far (Transfermarkt).
Therefore his frustrations and apparent desire to leave in the summer (Football Insider) are understandable.
However, so too are Lennon’s reasons for not playing him. The Celtic boss has previously revealed that Shved has struggled to reach the same levels as his teammates in training, whilst he is also having difficulties learning the language (Daily Record).
So as Hutton suggests, talks between Celtic and Shved certainly need to happen, as the winger’s status at the club is very much up in the air at the moment.
The 22-year-old showed us glimpses of his talent on his debut in the Champions League qualifier against Nomme Kalju with a fine goal. However, if Lennon believes he is not performing to the desired levels in training, then perhaps a summer move could be best for him.
