Celtic are said to have joined Leeds in the race for Reading’s highly-rated French teenager Michael Olise, according to The Daily Mail.
Newly promoted to the Premier League, Leeds have been chasing Olise for a permanent move this summer, however, it has now been reported that there is also interest from the Scottish champions.
Olise, who joined Reading’s academy after spells with Chelsea and Manchester City in July 2015, has proven to be a smart signing for the Royals.
The teenager made his debut against potential suitors Leeds during a 3-0 defeat in March 2019 at the Madejski Stadium and has since cemented his place amongst the first-team squad.
The 18-year-old made 18 appearances in the Reading’s Championship campaign, helping his club to a 14th place finish. However, his most notable performances came in the Premier League 2 development setup, where he scored four goals in just eight appearances for the Royals’ Under 23 side.
Eligible for England, France, and Nigeria, Olise has been capped twice by France at Under 18 level, he can play a variety of positions including on either flank, but he’s primarily suited to a role as an attacking midfielder.
The young Frenchman has just under two years remaining on his contract, which expires in June 2022, and it remains to be seen what kind of transfer figure the Berkshire club may consider if they were willing to sell their hot prospect.
Hoops’ boss Neil Lennon continues to look to strengthen his attacking options, with the club still hopeful of bringing in a striker before the close of the transfer window.
