In the wake of Celtic’s 6-0 thrashing of St Mirren in the Premiership, one Celtic fan has made an unlikely comparison.
Celtic fan Adam Lynch (@AdamLynch27_) took to Twitter to share a side-by-side of two photos: one featuring Diego Maradona and the other with Anthony Ralston.

In both pictures, the players are surrounded by opposition players emblazoning red shirts as they crowd each respective player whilst they showcase some individual ball-playing ability.
Although Ralston did not directly make it onto the scoresheet, the right-back assisted the first of Liel Abada’s pair of goal in a game that also saw a David Turnbull hattrick and an Odsonne Edouard strike late on.

Comparisons to the 1986 World Cup winner and Napoli legend are obviously intended to be tongue-in-cheek, though it does raise a more serious point as to Ralston’s resurgence under Ange Postecoglou.
Having initially struggled to appear capable of featuring regularly in top-level Scottish and European football, the Celtic academy product has improved dramatically in recent matches.
The defender and Scotland youth international has scored two goals and added an assist in just three Premiership outings and has also featured in both the UEFA Champions and Europa Leagues.
The arrival of attacking full-back and Croatia international Josip Juranovic is sure to shake up any guarantee that Ralston holds down a starting spot under Ange Postecoglou, but he has certainly proven his quality and ability to compete at this level.
