It has been a mixed season so far for Celtic and the loyal Parkhead faithful as there has been plenty to occupy the minds of fans, both on and off the pitch. Even legendary manager Martin O’Neill has had his own struggles in the 2026/27 Scottish Premiership campaign so far, and it was not that long ago that he admitted he was beginning to debate his own future this year with performances on the pitch not being what they should be, or what Celtic should rightly expect.
There is also continued talk about transfer targets, whether we should have gone for a more experienced goalkeeper like Blackburn Rovers’ Balazs Toth – but that does seem unfair on Viljami Sinisalo in some ways. In saying all of that, we have again quickly established our position in top spot in the table and opened up a small advantage on those sides below us in the chasing pack. Unless there is a complete implosion, we continue to be favourites to lift on https://parimatch.com/en/crypto-casino once again. With nine games played so far in the domestic game we have won eight of them, we are reasonably free scoring (23 goals to date), normally tight at the back with only five goals conceded, and with a four point buffer zone.
Those stats are however significantly improved after the weekend’s action as Sunday saw us host Heart of Midlothian and it was an eight goal thriller in our favour. Home advantage really counted as despite a mini rally from them ahead of the half time break where we conceded, we were utterly out of sight in the opening 45 minutes.
Kieran Tierney opened the scoring seven minutes in with Benjamin Nygren, Mika Baur and Callum Osmand (a brace) adding to the scoring. Camilo Duran scored four minutes into the second period, with Nygren completing his own brace in the 83rd minute. A much needed ‘pick me up’ for everyone involved from the players, right down to the fans.
There are still questions of course, and concerns, and the media now have their new favoured commentary lines to push – whether or not the serial winning O’Neill will still see out the season, is there an issue with Kasper Hogh after recent performances, and whether or not we will be looking to attempt to strengthen the first team group further come the New Year when the January transfer window opens.
That is exactly where we end up back at 29 year old Hungarian stopper Toth. The speculation rumour mill has his name dong the rounds once again, as it seems that his situation at Ewood Park has not improved and that he is still looking for a way out. The experienced keeper continues to refuse to sign a new contract with the English Championship team, so naturally, we are being linked with a possible move for him again given nothing ultimately happened with the summer speculation that we saw. This was despite the belief that he was our top target long before we moved for Sam Johnstone as experienced cover.
This might be worth watching as January nears as the claims are not going away.
