Rodgers targets mammoth 50-point league victory

Brendan Rodgers has called upon his Celtic squad to raise their standards and performances to new heights after securing a place in the last eight of the Scottish Cup.

The Hoops are soaring at the top of the Scottish Premiership by a margin of 27-points, and defeated Inverness Caledonian Thistle 6-0 in a thrilling game at Paradise.

And despite being in such a superior position, Rodgers intends to raise the bar even higher and wants his side to win the league by a margin of 50-points if they can.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, he said:

I’m not saying there were never good standards here. Celtic over the last five seasons have won. But what I’ve tried to do since I came in is raise the standard on every level.

Could we win in the best possible way that we can? So you can save money and win by ten points. Or can you spend money and win by 30? Well, I want to win by 50 if I can.

I said to the players before the game that the Scottish Cup is synonymous with Celtic.

Thirty-six times the club has won the trophy. We want to make it 37. I said we had four cup finals, now we have three.

Celtic is a winning club. But there are two ways to win; either you just do enough and win. Or you do everything you can to win the very best way you can.

My only way is to win in the best possible way. Entertain the supporters, make people enjoy it, make the players enjoy their work… and win as often as you can.

In-form striker Moussa Dembele bagged his second hat-trick in just six days against Inverness and took his goal tally to 26 this season.

Goals from Mikael Lustig, Kieran Tierney and Scott Brown added to Caley’s misery at Celtic Park as Rodgers’ side ran riot.

Having already secured the League Cup, and the league title being no one else’s to claim, keeping up performances in the Scottish Cup may grant Celtic their first treble victory since 2001.
