O’Connell leaves Celtic permanently for England

Celtic defender Eoghan O’Connell has left the club permenently and moved to England.

The Irishman broke into the first-team at the beginning of the season but fell out of favour as players returned from injury and spent three months on the periphery of the squad.

The 21-year-old has joined League One side Bury on a three-year deal, as per their official website.

O’Connell spent the last four months on loan to fellow League One side Walsall, making 17 appearances and scored one goal.

As his contract neared expiration, the move put his future at the Scottish club in doubt as Brendan Rodgers made his decision not to offer the youngster a new contract.

The Irishman impressed early on in the season, making seven appearances, as Rodgers dealt with numerous injuries in the squad and looked to have impressed the new boss.

However that seems to have changed dramatically as his time at Celtic has come to an end.
