Yesterday, we created a Duel, asking the readers of Read Celtic to vote for who they think are the greatest players to ever play for Celtic Football Club.
The current Scottish champions have had some amazing, world-class footballers on their books down the years, so the choice was not an easy one at all.
Over 1300 voters took part in the Duel and here’s how the results came out in reverse order from 10 to 1.
10 - Bertie Auld
Robert “Bertie” Auld was a member of Celtic’s famous Lisbon Lions, who won the European Cup in 1967.
9 - Paul McStay
Nicknamed the Maestro, Paul McStay was a Celtic favourite throughout the 80’s and 90’s
8 - Bobby Lennox
Another of the Lisbon Lions, Bobby Lennox scored an amazing score 273 goals in all competitions for Celtic.
7 - Bobby Murdoch
Another of the Lisobon Lions, Bobby Murdoch also won he won eight Scottish League titles, four Scottish Cups and five League Cups at Celtic.
6 - Jimmy McGrory
Celtic’s leading goalscorer in history, Jimmy McGrory scored an incredible 469 goals in 448 games in the 1920s & ’30s.
5 - Danny McGrain
Danny McGrain played an incredible 659 competitive games for Celtic between 1970 and 1987, In that time, he won seven league titles, five Scottish Cups and two League Cups.
4- Kenny Dalglish
Kenny Dalglish made 320 appearances for Celtic, scoring 167 goals.
3- Billy McNeill
The captain of the Lisbon Lions, Billy McNeill has been immortalised at Celtic Park with a statue.
2 - Jimmy Johnstone
‘Jinky’ Jimmy Johnstone won a poll in 2002, declaring him as Celtic’s best ever player, but he’s not won the Read Celtic vote. He scored 129 goals in 515 appearances for Celtic.
1 - Henrik Larsson
Beating Jinky to the number one spot is the Swedish Superstar Henrik Larsson. Signed for a fee of just £650,000, Larsson scored 242 goals in 313 games for Celtic and was voted the club’s best player by the Read Celtic readers.
