Celtic player ratings: Motherwell (A)

Celtic continued their strong start to the season with a second half rout at Fir-Park to see them down a spirited Motherwell side.

Goals from Kristoffer Ajer, Leigh Griffiths, James Forrest, Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie saw off Liam Donnelly’s double.

Stephen Robinson’s team started the brightest and were confident in possession against the Champions.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to take advantage of their start as Declan Gallagher’s knock down picked out Donnelly on the edge of the box who’s half volley skipped past Bain, who was slow to get down, and into the corner of the net.

However, the travelling away support saw the perfect response just minutes later from none other than Ajer who’s marauding run into the box was stopped by Forrest and the Norwegian defender kept his cool to finish like a striker.

Despite being pegged back, Motherwell continued to see lots of the ball and prevented the likes of Brown and McGregor from dominating proceedings.

Griffiths was nearly into to score on the half-hour mark but Gillespie in goal read Olivier Ntcham’s ball well.

Ntcham was really the provided again with a chipped ball in behind for Bolingoli’s whose volley flashed just wide from a tight angle.

Five minutes, before half-time Celtic took the lead for the first time. Griffiths stepped up to take a free-kick from around 30 yards and drove the ball low into the far corner, a great strike.

The second half saw the game remain tight until the 65th minute when Bolingoli picked out Forrest from the byline and the winger kept his composure and dazzling feet to move the ball onto his left and roll the ball into the far corner.

Celtic really found their rhythm after this and added a fourth through Edouard from outside the box as he picked out the corner with a shot after easing past Dunne.

It was Ryan Christie on the scoresheet again as he battered in from the spot for a fifth after Edouard’s driving run was halted by a foul in the box.

The Steelmen managed to pull back another goal in added time again from Donnelly who couldn’t miss from yards out.
