Should Celtic sign Riley McGree, it will be interesting to see where the 23-year-old fits into the Hoops squad. Celtic have been linked with a move for the Australian, with Sky Sports News’ News Editor Anthony Joseph revealing on Twitter that talks are underway between Celtic and Charlotte FC.

There might a lot of midfielders in the Celtic squad, but if we look at where McGree played last season, there does seem to be a place for him in the Hoops squad.
Transfermarkt suggests that the 23-year-old can play in central midfield, and as both an attacking an defensive midfielder.
However, if you look at the games that McGree has played whilst on loan at Birmingham this season, then he hasn’t been used as a defensive midfielder.

Transfermarkt shows that he played most games for the Championship side as an attacking midfielder with six appearances in that position, then five games as a central midfielder.
Attacking midfield is an area where Celtic could be doing with more players. If we once more look at Transfermarkt, the Hoops only have one natural attacking midfielder in the squad, in Tom Rogic.
It could be argued that David Turnbull has also played in that position, and that might well be the case, but he is out of action with a hamstring injury.

Therefore, there is an opening for another attacking midfielder in the Celtic squad, and it could be that McGree provides an extra option for the Hoops.
Having a replacement for Rogic would be a good bit of business for the Bhoys. There is no doubt that Rogic has been a huge player for the Hoops in the first-half of the season, but there is no guarantee that he will be able to play every game in the second-half of the season.
That could be where McGree comes in, as a replacement for his fellow Australian. That would be a good bit of business for Celtic if the transfer deal gets done.

Attacking midfield is an important position, especially when it comes to creating chances and finding the back of the net. Rogic has been key for Celtic in that position this season, and perhaps McGree can be in that position for the Hoops by the end of the season.
Hopefully McGree can contribute for the Hoops if he signs for the side, it might take time for him to be as good as Rogic, but if he turns out to be half as good as Rogic has been he will be a good signing for Celtic.
