As far as new signings go, Scott Allan has certainly been one of the most controversial in recent years in Scottish football.
The boyhood Rangers fan joined up with league champions Celtic in a move that caused an outcry amongst Rangers fans. The midfielder will be looking to make an early impact on manager Ronny Deila and break into the squad for the first-leg of Celtic’s Champions League play-off.
Celtic and their fans have no problem accepting anyone to Celtic Park. Once the famous Hoops are donned everything else is forgotten, as long as he gives everything on the pitch for the shirt.
Scott Allan had his first press conference as a Celtic player earlier today at Lennoxtown. Allan became the fifth summer signing for Deila and Celtic, which completed on Friday night and unveiled to the fans before Saturday afternoon’s 4-2 victory against Inverness CT.
Speaking to the media at Celtic’s training ground, and quoted by Celtic’s official Twitter account the 23-year-old said:
When I heard from my agent that Celtic were interested it was an easy decision. It’s a step up a league and chance of European football.
I was just concentrating on my game and if something came up I’d need to make a decision. Lucky enough it was Celtic. I wanted to go on and progress my career and this is the right move for me.
My job is a football player and to come to Celtic was an easy decision to make and that’s why I made it. The manager has noticed some of my strengths but I still have things to work on. This is the place to develop my game.
The biggest emotion for me is excitement. To get back playing football, working hard and trying to get into the team. My family support any decision I make and that’s what I would expect of them.
Allan was also impressed by the reaction he got from the crowd at Celtic Park on Saturday.
It was unbelievable. It was a really good feeling and something I’ll not forget.
