Gordon reveals Rodgers’ talk that gave him confidence

Craig Gordon is keen to repay the faith Brendan Rodgers has shown in him after winning back the starting role between the posts.

Rodgers dropped the keeper at the beginning of September for the Glasgow Derby in favour of summer signing Dorus de Vries, who worked with the Irishman previously at Swansea.

However, Gordon has fought his way back into the side after the Dutchman failed to impress, conceding 12 goals in four games, seven of which came against Barcelona.

As quoted by the Scotsman, Gordon said:

Now I know [what he wants] as he went into it in great detail. It wasn’t something we did straight away but certainly the manager wants to get a lot of information into the team.

As we’ve developed as a team, we’ve gone and worked on a lot more. Once I got to see exactly how it was working I felt a lot more comfortable in being able to do it myself and execute what he wants me to do.

It’s about staying in the team and doing what the manager wants me to do. When you are in possession of the gloves or the shirt you want to hang on to it. So it’s about doing the things he wants me to do.

With 16 appearances this season for the Hoops, the 33-year-old has shaken off his early season mistakes and now looks likely to hold down the number one role permanently at the club based upon his current performances.

Gordon will look to keep his fourth consecutive domestic clean sheet against Ross County tonight ahead of their clash with Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Saturday.

The Dons lost 1-0 last night to Hamilton Academical, and Celtic could be as many as seven points ahead of their title rivals before Saturday’s meeting, with a game still in hand over them.
