Brendan Rodgers has revealed he has no concerns about backup ‘keeper Dorus de Vries wanting a move away from the Parkhead club this January.
De Vries signed for the Hoops in August and was originally intended to be first choice between the sticks under Rodgers, but Scottish international Craig Gordon upped his game and has since won back his place in the team.
The Dutchman was at English Championship side Nottingham Forrest for three years before signing for the Scottish Champions, though his game time has been limited due to the form of 34-year-old Gordon.
Rodgers was quoted by The Herald when speaking about de Vries, saying:
Goalkeepers understand and respect things and Dorus is a good guy.
He’s an honest fella and understands where he’s at and that he’s a real part of the squad here even though he hasn’t played as much.
People wonder why I brought in Dorus, but he’s an influence on that as well Craig’s seen how he’s working and he’s able to sit with him and talk about how I worked at Swansea. That’s helped him along with his own intelligence of how to get better.
De Vries has made five appearances for Celtic in all competitions, with the most notable of those being the triumphant 5-1 victory over Rangers and as well as the 7-0 drubbing away to Catalan giants Barcelona.
The former Dunfermline ‘keeper previously played under Rodgers for a year when at Swansea City, and will no doubt have formed a solid relationship with the Irishman.
