Despite being a bit-part player for Celtic this season, Dedryck Boyata reaffirmed his commitment to the club by rejected three different clubs in the January transfer window.
The Daily Record note that three clubs from across Europe were interested in Boyata last month – Hull City, Werder Bremen and Anderlecht – but he decided that he’d be best served fighting for his Celtic future.
Boyata’s commitment to the club has not gone unnoticed, as Brendan Rodgers has started the Belgian international defender in each of the last five games as he looks to have fought his way back into the first-team picture after making just one prior appearance in a season hampered by a thigh injury.
Celtic signed the 26-year-old from Manchester City where he had spent his entire professional career in a £1.7m deal in July 2015 and despite being a regular under Ronny Deila last season, Boyata wasn’t fancied initially by Rodgers.
Not in the side, Boyata reveals that he informed his agent to seek a move but he’s happy now he’s back in the Celtic team and he’s ready to see out the rest of his contract which runs until 2019.
“Given that I wasn’t playing at Celtic, I told my agent to look at what was possible.
“But I also asked him not to give me unnecessary headaches and only talk to me about concrete offers.
“It is true, he mentioned the interest of Anderlecht, Werder Bremen and Hull, but it was never serious enough to alert Celtic.
“Especially, since I am now back in the team. I have two and a half years left of my contract here. I have played nearly 50 games with Celtic.”
Boyata continues by saying he’s never been so settled at Celtic as he is now, but doesn’t have any definite plans for the future but would like to prove himself in the Premier League.
“I don’t have any definite plans for the future, but I am secure at Celtic.
“It would have been nice to go back home to Belgium, but their interest was never serious enough.
“I still have my dreams in football. The one that currently occupies me is Celtic. Possibly, one day I may be able to prove myself in the Premier League.
“Today, I have never felt so comfortable as I do at Celtic. I’m getting married next year and I am settled.”
