Under Brendan Rodgers, Celtic have prioritised bringing in talented young players who can develop and grow at the club, with Moussa Dembele and Kouassi Eboue two fine examples.
The club sent scouts this week to Serbia to watch Red Star take on Partizan in the Belgrade derby with eyes on Partizan’s talented teenage centre-back Nikola Milenkovic.
According to Novosti, Celtic were one of over 50 clubs from around Europe who has scouts at the game, with representatives from Liverpool, Arsenal, Monaco, Ajax, Inter Milan and Fiorentina all also in attendance with many having eyes on the 19-year-old defender.
Juventus are also interested in signing the Serbian who earned his first international cap earlier this season, say the Daily Record, and is believed to be available on the cheap.
Milenkovic joined Partizan from Teleoptik Zemun on a free transfer back in January 2016 and has made 22 appearances for the SuperLiga club since his arrival, 22 of which have come this season.
Vesti Sport claimed in October that Newcastle United were tracking the defender who is under contract until the summer of 2020 but could be had for as little as £3m.
Given the widespread interest from across Europe in the defender, Celtic could be a great home for Milenkovic to develop his game like Dembele has done which could allow the club to cash-in for a major profit as we’ve seen with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama.
