Sinclair welcomes break and reminds fans about expectations

Scott Sinclair believes it’s not guaranteed that Celtic will win comfortably every week and welcomed the international break to refocus ahead of the domestic run in.

The 27-year-old winger has been in sensational form since he arrived from Aston Villa last summer, scoring winning goals on his debut at Tynecastle and on Hogmanay at Ibrox.

Sinclair has scored 18 goals in all competitions this season but acknowledged he hasn’t been at his best in recent weeks as he approaches 40 appearances for the season.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Sinclair said:

Because we’ve done so well, the expectation is so high and people expect us to win 3-0 every week.

Football is not like that. We were not at our best over the last few games – the draw against Rangers and then the win at Dundee.

Now we have a break to refresh and go again. I think it will be great for all the players to now kick on. Everyone has the mentality of motoring through and getting this done.

I think we always try and plough through. The manager has the expectation of us – to keep going and going.

But there are times when you have a break or go away just to relax and make sure you are ready again when you come back.

Brendan Rodgers’ side could become the first side to win a domestic treble since 2001 when Martin O’Neill also achieved it in his first season in the Celtic dug out.

With a 25 point gap at the top of the league table, the Hoops will be gearing up for a crunch Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers at Hampden Park in a month’s time.

Celtic are in action again on April 2nd against Hearts and will secure the league title with a win at Tynecastle.
