Henderson reveals Rodgers’ advice to him

Liam Henderson is willing to be patient for his chance at Celtic having received advice from Brendan Rodgers.

The midfielder has 13 appearances and one goal this season against St Johnstone, but hasn’t made an appearance since the beginning of March.

Speaking to the Glasgow Evening Times, the 20-year-old said:

He’s always said to me since he came in that he’ll give young boys a chance and that if you are good enough he will have no hesitation about putting you in.

I’m delighted to be at Celtic under Brendan. I’m only 20. For me I just need to keep working away. It’s not going to get handed to me on a plate.

Celtic is the biggest club in Scotland and I need to keep working and learning every day. I need to keep learning off these boys.

I’ve learned so much. We are training at a high level every day and playing. When I’ve been given the opportunity I feel that I’ve done my justice. It’s been a brilliant season for me.

With the league already secured, Rodgers may rotate his squad giving Henderson further chances to lay down a marker going into the off-season and putting himself in the manager’s plans.

There are a host of midfielders vying for a role in the team, with Nir Bitton, Callum McGregor and January signing Eboue Kouassi all competing with the young Scot to join Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong in the starting team.

Celtic are in action again on Sunday when they will take on Ross County ahead of a crucial Scottish Cup semi-final as they go in search of a domestic treble.
