Brendan Rodgers wants to make his squad even more competitive next season by adding a number of top-class signings to his ranks this summer.
After picking up the award for Scotland’s manager of the year on Sunday, to no surprise, he spoke about the next campaign and improvements that can be made.
Players will tell you, if they have competition it improves them. It’s the best time to develop. You can never become complacent. The players have improved, they’re going to improve even more and gain more confidence next season.
And if we can add one or two to that with genuine quality, then it just makes the group really competitive on a daily basis, and that will improve them in the games.
We’re very much wheels in motion, looking to improve and bring more quality to the squad as opposed to numbers. That’s well underway. We’ve got a great recruitment team and people behind the scenes working very closely with myself and Peter on that.
After a superb season at the helm, Rodgers is clearly motivated to continue Celtic’s dominance.
The Bhoys haven’t lost a domestic game during the whole of the season and will complete a treble should they do as expected and beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final on May 27th.
That treble achievement, the first since 2001, would even further highlight the excellent job Rodgers has done since his arrival at Parkhead.
And, as well as the brilliance in terms of winning games and trophies, Rodgers has also been part of a rise in certain fringe players, who now fill part of his blossoming squad.
Callum McGregor and Stuart Armstrong are two good examples of the Northern Irishman working his magic and improving players – something he has done throughout his career.
If the club, along with Rodgers, can add some top-class quality, there is no reason they can’t complete back-to-back trebles as well as make a good showing in next season’s Champions League. That is now the next step for Rodgers – as he looks to improve on what’s been a top drawer season.
