Treatment of Brown similar to that of Suarez says Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers has said that the way Scott Brown is treated in the Scottish Premiership is similar to how Luis Suarez was treated at Liverpool.

Rodgers managed the now Barcelona star at Anfield, almost leading the Reds to the Premier League title.

However, Suarez was not a well liked figure outside of Liverpool, and is receiving treatment similar to what Scott Brown is now receiving at Celtic.

Rodgers said via the Daily Record:

Yes, he is one of those characters. I had it with Luis Suarez (at Liverpool). Every ground you went to, Luis always got it. But that only raised his performance level and Scott’s the same.

When you are that aggressor and that type, of course you are always going to be liable to be a target at times but he deals with that. And he is also a very fair and honest player.

Brown was on the receiving end of a brutal challenge against Ross County, with captain Andrew Davies was given a straight red card for the offence.

Rodgers believes that opposing teams should be less envious of the Scot, and instead look to be more similar to him.

The Northern Irishman added:

So instead of being envious of him, it is about trying to emulate what his qualities are and if you could produce (more) Scottish players like that then you could have some very good players.

Davies will not be receiving any extra punishment, other than a two match ban for the red card.
