Stoke City join Celtic in battle to land Tommy Smith
Stoke City have reportedly joined Celtic in the race to sign experienced right-back Tommy Smith from Huddersfield Town this summer.
According to Football Insider, the Potters have made club-captain Smith one of their top transfer targets, while the Hoops are also still keen on the 27-year-old.
A battle for the defender looks set to commence in the coming weeks, with the Terriers expecting approaches for the player in the next 14 days.
Smith has made over 200 appearances for the Yorkshire side since joining on a free transfer back in 2012, helping the club to the Premier League two years ago with some consistent displays at right-back.
The former Manchester City man would bring plenty of experience to Celtic Park, with Neil Lennon desperate to bring in defensive reinforcements ahead of the new campaign.
Smith has 12 months left on his current Huddersfield deal, so if the Hoops can guarantee him regular game time, the defender may well be available for a cut-price fee.
