Celtic were reportedly left “shattered” by Liam Morrison’s decision to turn down a professional contract with the Hoops in order to join Bayern Munich, so should they have acted sooner?

According to Football Insider, those working at Celtic from the academy through to the first team were all left “shattered” after Morrison completed his move to the German champions earlier this month.

So could Celtic have acted sooner to tie the youngster down to a professional contract?

This would have no doubt been a tough situation to handle for Celtic, as Morrison was one of the most sought after teenagers across Europe, hence the interest from the likes of Bayern.

Will Morrison become first team player for Bayern in the future?

Yes

No

And as soon as the 16-year-old would have heard of offers from the Bundesliga giants, it would have been nigh-on impossible for Celtic to persuade him to stay.

To their credit, the report suggests the club did table a number of “lucrative” contract offers to Morrison in an attempt to keep hold of their star youngster, but ultimately the early interest shown by Bayern was enough to sway him to Munich.
