With the transfer window now well and truly closed, it won’t be too long until rumours start appearing, linking Celtic with summer targets.
Scott Sinclair was one of the major departures from the window following his switch to Preston North End, and his move cleared a large chunk of Celtic’s wage bill, given how Football Insider revealed he was earning around £35,000-a-week.
The summer will be another important window for the club regardless of what happens in the rest of this season, but as things currently stand it looks as though the Hoops will need to strengthen for a 10-in-a-row push.
With that in mind, we’ve taken a look at four January targets who the Hoops should re-ignite their interest in, in the summer.
Greek outlet Sdna.gr linked Celtic with a move for Barkas prior to the January window, and with Craig Gordon looking likely to leave (Football Insider) and Fraser Forster’s loan set to expire, the Hoops looks as though they’ll need a goalkeeper.
Barkas has plenty of experience with 10 caps for Greece and 100 appearances for AEK Athens (Transfermarkt), so we feel as though he could be a good player to pursue in the summer.
I personally felt as though centre-back was an area that needed strengthening in January, given how Jozo Simunovic, Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer are the only three senior options.
Ajer was also linked with a move away in January (The Scotsman), so reinforcements could be needed in the summer.
TEAMtalk claimed Celtic were interested Gibson last month, so he could be another The Hoops look to make a move for in the summer.
The Daily Record claimed Celtic had the Peterborough United striker scouted last month, and given his form this season, with 19 league goals in 28 appearances (Transfermarkt), he could be a fine addition.
Another striker to have been linked with Celtic last month was Shankland (Daily Record).
Speculation is mounting over Odsonne Edouard’s future, with these fans worried about whether he will stay for next season or not, and Celtic will need a ready made replacement.
Shankland is that man in my view, given how he has scored for fun this season, with 22 goals in just 20 league appearances (Transfermarkt).
