Former Rangers and Scotland defender Alan Hutton has laughed off Jermain Defoe’s comments relating to his side’s aims for the 2020/21 season.
Speaking to talkSPORT about the targets of Steven Gerrard’s side for the next campaign, Defoe claimed that Rangers are solely focussing on winning the Premiership for their own benefit and not to prevent Celtic from winning a tenth-successive League title.
However, in an exclusive interview with Football Insider. Hutton laughed off those claims and said that all Rangers fans, including himself, are desperate to see Gerrard’s men prevent Celtic from winning a tenth title in a row.
He said:
Oh, in my opinion, it is about stopping Celtic next season. I understand from a Rangers point of view you have to say the correct thing, I totally get that, but now that I’m a fan, it’s about stopping 10-in-a-row.

If Defoe truly believes that there’s no desperation from Rangers to stop Celtic winning a tenth title in a row, then he’s sadly mistaken.
Of course, as a player, he needs to stay professional and say the right things but the pressure on his side to stop 10IAR will be huge.
The last thing Rangers fans will want to see is Celtic making it ten in a row and they’ll let those feelings be known all season.
Defoe, if he isn’t prepared for that pressure will, in our opinion, be in for a bit of a shock.
