Celtic have shown an interest in signing AEK Athens goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas, according to reports from the player’s homeland (via Sport Witness).
The Greek international is seemingly a man in demand with a couple of clubs interested in signing him, one of whom are the Scottish champions.
With doubts lingering about the future of Fraser Forster, and Craig Gordon looking more and more likely to join Hearts on a free transfer, Celtic could very well need to look elsewhere at goalkeepers and it looks like their scouts have identified Barkas.
The report claims that Celtic’s sporting director Nick Hammond is a fan of the -year-old and has been keeping a close eye on him, knowing that the Hoops could be looking for a new shot-stopper.

It still feels like Forster is Celtic’s prefered option in terms of goalkeeper signings, but it makes sense for the club to be looking elsewhere incase they can’t agree a deal with Southampton for him.
Barkas is a veteran player who has experience playing at domestic, European and international levels and looks like he could be a decent second option if a deal for Forster can’t get done.
