Mohamed Elyounoussi has decided to extend his loan move to Celtic for one more season, and the deal is almost complete, with just paperwork left to be processed.

As per a report from Arilas Ould-Saada, the International football correspondent for Norwegian media VG and VGTV, Elyounoussi has decided to stay with the Hoops for the 2020/21 campaign at it looks like Southampton have agreed to the deal too.

The Norwegian spent the 2019/20 season on loan with the Hoops and after a bright start, he suffered an injury and even though he got himself back fit to play, the time on the sideline seemed to have hampered his performances.

Last month, Neil Lennon confirmed that he intended to keep Elyounoussi for another season if possible and it looks like he has got his wish.

At a time when the finances of Celtic are unclear, it makes sense that the club would look to keep Elyounoussi on loan rather than go into the transfer market to sign a forward.

Furthermore, in what is looking like a quick turnaround this summer, it also makes sense for the club to look to keep as much continuity as possible as they look to win a tenth-successive league title.

The next step will now be to get a deal done for Elyounoussi’s Saints’ teammate Fraser Forster.
