Speaking at his press conference ahead of Celtic’s opening game of the season against Hamilton this weekend, manager Neil Lennon has, unsurprisingly, confirmed that Vasilis Barkas will be the club’s first-choice goalkeeper for the start of the campaign.
Barkas arrived at Celtic Park earlier this week, completing a transfer from Greek side AEK Athens and it looks like he’ll be handed his debut when the champions host The Accies at Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon.

For all the talking up of Scott Bain throughout the last few weeks, it was obvious that The Hoops were not looking to bring in a backup to him, but instead, a player to replace him in the starting line-up.
Having paid a pretty decent fee for the Greek international, it was obvious that he was going to play sooner rather than later but Lennon is making the right decision to put him straight away.
With all due respect to Hamilton, Celtic at home, should have too much strength to be caused too many issues so even if there are some teething pains with the new ‘keeper, it’s best to get those resolved and out of the way quickly.
