Celtic fans react to sporting director shortlist

Celtic’s immediate future looks to be a period of intense introspection and rebuilding ahead of the summer as the Bhoys look to revitalise their fortunes.

In an exciting and invigorating development, the Hoops seem to be making great strides in their attempts to modernise the club’s structure with the appointment of a sporting director.

According to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph, David Webb, Fergal Harkin & Matteo Tognozzi are three names being considered for the new role at Parkhead. All three options boast a range of diverse distinctions and past roles as varied as Juventus and Huddersfield.

Incoming CEO Dominic McKay will have an input on the eventual appointment.

Webb boasts a wealth of domestic experience and is a former Tottenham, Bournemouth and Huddersfield recruitment chief.

Harkin is pathways manager at Manchester City and is responsible for the career progression of young players, typically through the overseeing and management of loan spells. He has been a mainstay of the club’s recruitment staff for more than 11 years.

Italian recruitment expert Tognozzi, the only non-domestic candidate cited, has been working closely with Juve’s managing director Fabio Paratici for the last four years and boasts a specialisation in the recruitment and development of younger talent. He also has previous European experience in the Bundesliga with a similar role at Bayer Leverkusen.

With not one but three experienced candidates named (as reported by Sky Sports), many Celtic fans took to Twitter to have their say on the structural development…
