Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that recent arrival Yosuke Ideguchi will be out of action for a while after he suffered an injury in the Hoops’ recent Scottish Cup win over Alloa.
The player has suffered an ankle injury, and the Hoops manager disclosed to Celtic TV as reported by the Daily Record that he will be out of action for ‘a little bit’ of time.
Naturally all Celtic fans will hope that the injury isn’t as severe as it looks, but it is a real blow to the club and the player.
Celtic are in a precarious situation when it comes to midfielders at the moment, as with Tom Rogic away on international duty and David Turnbull and Callum McGregor both injured the club are down to four midfielders.
The four players are Nir Bitton, James McCarthy, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley. That is a concern, when you consider that Hatate has played one game for the Hoops and O’Riley has yet to play a game for Celtic.
That midfield is not ideal for a trip to Tynecastle to play Hearts, but Celtic will just need to get one with it.
However, the bad injury news means that the Hoops should go out and bring in a new midfielder before the transfer window closes on the 31st of January.
Just for the sake of numbers alone, the Bhoys should look to add another player for the middle of the park to the squad before the deadline.
A player that can feature in the derby against Rangers on the 2nd of February would be ideal, so someone that is used to Scottish football and has experience of featuring in big games could be a candidate.
Hopefully Celtic have players on the club’s transfer shortlist that fit that criteria, as the injury issues are having a real impact on the club’s bid to regain the Premiership title.
That is why the Hoops should be looking to add another midfielder as soon as possible. Ange Postecoglou will be well-aware of this, and it would not be a surprise if he is asking the Celtic board to make at least one more singing in the next few days.
As for Ideguchi, the player is so unfortunate to get injured in his first game for the Hoops. It is the last thing anyone at Celtic would have wanted. Hopefully he is only out for a relatively short period, and can return to the Celtic side at some stage this season.
