The speculation over Celtic right-back Josip Juranovic’s future with the club doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon, especially after the Hoops signed Alistair Johnston from Montreal, and as a result now have three right-backs at the club, the third being Anthony Ralston.
One man who had something interesting to say about the 27-year-old’s future at Celtic is Forbes/Transfermarkt football writer Manuel Veth.
The journalist has made a bold claim about the former Legia Warsaw’s future at Celtic, and what might happen in the January transfer window, which opens in just under a month.
Veth, who reported on the signing of Johnston, has claimed on Twitter that he Hoops are ‘actively shopping’ Juranovic.
Here is what the journalist said about the Hoops star:
As I reported as part of the Alistair Johnston to Celtic deal last week. The #CanMNT is brought in as a Josip Juranovic replacement. The Scottish club is actively shopping the Croatian right-back.
Juranovic will not be back at Celtic until at least next week, as the player is set to feature in the upcoming World Cup quarter-final against Brazil.
READ CELTIC VERDICT:
Whilst there has been a lot of speculation about the future of Juranovic, this is really the first time where it has been stated that the Hoops are looking to sell the right-back in the January transfer window. Those two words ‘actively shopping’, show that the Hoops are looking to move the player on, and really, that has probably been the idea ever since the Hoops first expressed an interest in signing Alistair Johnston.
The Bhoys will be looking to get good money for the Croatian star, and the fact that Juranovic has started every game for a team which is in the last eight of the World Cup could mean that the Hoops could make perhaps £10m plus on the transfer.
Even though the Bhoys might be looking to actively sell Juranovic, you have to think that Celtic won’t sell the player unless the Hoops get the right fee, and if Juranovic stays at Celtic until the end of the season, then that won’t be an issue for the club, as he has been an excellent player for the club, and it would allow Alistair Johnston to get used to move to Scotland, and he could learn a lot from Juranovic.
Only time will tell just how long Juranovic will be remain a Celtic player, but it would be a major surprise if he was still at the Hoops this time next year.
