North Curve Celtic’s banner at Celtic Park should not embarrass supporters. It should embarrass every Celtic director who has allowed the same European failures to happen repeatedly.
“World class embarrassment,” it read.
Underneath came the names: Legia, Maribor, Malmo, AEK Athens, Cluj, Ferencvaros, Midtjylland, Kairat and now LASK.
I fully support it.
That is not mindless anger. It is a record of failure.
Celtic supporters have been sold ambition without enough action
Celtic went to Austria carrying a 3-0 advantage over LASK. They even stretched the aggregate lead further before somehow collapsing to a humiliating 5-1 defeat.
Players and management deserve criticism for what happened on that pitch. However, the board cannot hide behind them.
The bigger question is why Celtic reached another enormous European tie without a properly completed squad.
Again.
Arne Engels had been sold. Daizen Maeda had already departed. Alistair Johnston was injured. Obvious areas still required strengthening.
Yet Celtic walked into the most financially important period of their season unfinished.
How many times are supporters expected to accept this?
Transfers are difficult. We hear it every year.
Other clubs somehow manage them.
Planning is difficult too. That is why Celtic employ highly paid executives and recruitment staff.
They know when the qualifiers are taking place months in advance.
Four days left and Celtic are scrambling again
It is Saturday night.
The Europa League registration deadline arrives on Wednesday night.
That leaves Celtic four days.
Does anybody seriously believe this club will suddenly complete all the business required before then?
I hope they prove me wrong. Their record gives supporters every reason to doubt it.
That is what makes this infuriating.
Celtic are not some impoverished club being forced to operate from hand to mouth. Recent accounts have shown tens of millions sitting in the bank, while significant transfer money has continued coming through the door.
Supporters also continue paying.
Season tickets sell.
European tickets sell.
Merchandise sells.
Fans turn up year after year and financially back this football club extraordinarily well.
Yet when Celtic need ambition returned from the boardroom, we repeatedly get caution, delays and excuses.
That feels like supporters being taken for granted.
The board loves talking about Celtic operating at a high level. Fine.
Then operate like it.
Build the squad before the Champions League qualifiers rather than afterwards.
Replace important players before selling them.
Stop gambling enormous European revenue against the hope that an incomplete squad will somehow get through.
North Curve Celtic did not create this embarrassment.
They simply put years of it onto a banner.
If the board dislikes seeing those names displayed together, there is one very simple solution.
Stop adding new ones.
This club is run by the most pernicious and false group of malignant and self deprecating slimmy snakes (and that is a insult to snakes) the real fans of this club are not the happy clappers, but the green brigade and the Celtic supporters groups who advocate not another penny Desmond and his offspring will destroy this club if the happy clappers let them , action has to be increased , do any Celtic supporters believe that we would qualify for the champions league with three knockout stages , no chance. Stop giving them your money or you are complicit in the destruction of our club
The board are a fuckin disgrace ut nobody could even have predicted that. Having said that, I would also put it down to poor management with the players available. When we go 2-1 down then bring on the changes. I would have sat McGregor and Scales in front of the back 4. Big Donovan was terrible so would have even brought on the brickie and sat those back 6 deep. The other 4, kept Hogh up top, and the 3 behind him, Hassan on the right, Osmand on the left and Duran central behind Hogh…. Osmand and Hassan are quick and direct, instead of shitty wee short passes taking risks on the edge of our box I would have got the ball first time dinked out to either flank and hit these cunts on the break with pace. The difference between Osmand and Tounekti is Osmand is quick and direct, Tounekti appears to slow the game down, wait for his man and try to take him on. And why the fuck Hassan didnt feature I will never know
