The Celtic board and their lies…where to begin?

Yesterday, I published an article which seemed to upset a lot of people in both Celtic fan media, and elsewhere.

I’m not sure why it was so upsetting because at the end of the day, the article just contained somebody else’s opinion.

This particular opinion debunked a story that was published in the Record last week.

In fact, there were several opinions in this article that caused a lot of controversy, if I’m being honest.

But what amused me most of all was the blanket consensus that somebody who is not of a Celtic persuasion, when giving his opinion on Celtic’s behaviour, must automatically be a liar.

What made his opinion less believable was the cardinal sin of being a player agent.

As if somehow being a player agent makes you more likely to be a liar, than let’s say, a bunch of proven liars like the Celtic board.

Who in the view of Seamus1888 on X, are pinnacles of honesty, in a bastion of total integrity.

Just have a look at the reaction my post garnered on X yesterday, and in particular, the reaction of Seamus1888:

Much of the time, I think Seamus1888 is Ross (Nepobaby) Desmond.

He’s just hiding behind this X account to batter upstart Celtic fans with his inane opinions.

Just look at his responses when he’s challenged by me.

Stinks of board obfuscation, doesn’t it?

Cannot respond to a question with a straight answer, at any point.

Remind you of anyone?

My apologies, I’ve digressed from the main thrust of my article, which is the overall outcry over yesterday’s piece.

The outcry in general tried to state that my story was bullshit.

I was asked the question over, and over again as to how I could believe anything written in the Daily Record, or even use that as a source.

For context, this was in relation to Michael Gannon’s story last week.

In his story, he stated that Torino priced Celtic out of the Gvidas Gineitis deal with this quote:

Celts were prepared to slap down an offer worth up to £9m – but Torino chiefs refused to budge from the valuation of closer to £13m.

I called bullshit on this, on the basis that Gvidas Gineitis’ agent,  Dmitri Vinokurov, stated Torino’s asking price was €8 million (£6.85 million).

I have since been ridiculed for my ‘naivety’ in trusting Gannon’s story.

Because the Daily Record is an anti-Celtic publication.

I don’t doubt that it is.

In fact, I never have, hence the reason I always call out the bullshit I see in it when it comes to Celtic.

However, for those board lovers out there who rode so valiantly in to the defence of their heroes yesterday, consider this.

The Daily Record is an ‘unofficial media partner’ of Celtic.

They are invited to every media conference, and provided with match facilities for every home match.

Now, wouldn’t you say that’s overly generous treatment towards a media outlet which is supposed to hate our club?

So, tell me this, why would you get into bed with a publication that is so vehemently anti-Celtic?

Gee whizz, I wonder why a Celtic board which treats its fanbase with utter contempt would form a partnership with a rag that hates us so….

Could it be that they both hate us?

Just a thought.

Moving along swiftly now.

Last summer, while Celtic were out in the Algarve for their pre-season training camp, four Record reporters were sent to cover our friendly out there.

Two of those were Michael Gannon and Ryan McDonald.

While they were there, the Record reporters were provided with about eight players to interview.

They were permitted two interviews with Martin O’Neill, and at least one night out on the booze with him.

Up close and personal.

A very cozy arrangement for a rag that despises us, don’t you think?

Now to get to the crux of the matter, the Celtic board and their lies.

Don’t worry, this will all knit together nicely in the end.

The first lie, which impacts all lies over the course of the summer, is this.

When asked directly by Celtic TV if Martin O’Neill would receive substantial backing in the transfer market, Brian Wilson stated:

Absolutely, and that is very much part of the basis on which he’s wanted to come back, and we’ve wanted him to come back. It’s going to be a very active next few weeks, and we must come out of it with a stronger squad.

Lies.

Then Wilson said this:

It’s going to be a big summer, and everyone I hope and expect has learned lessons from some things which influence this season… thereafter there is a huge effort assured in the summer so that we face next season in the strongest possible position. Everything else is secondary to what happens on the park…

More lies.

Big summer for outgoings?

Hell yes!

Lessons learned?

Refer to our ill-fated trip to Linz.

Then refer to the last 36 hours of the transfer window.

Once again, refer to Linz, then the last 36 hours of the window, and then refer to Gvidas Gineitis.

Lies, all of it.

From a board that never lies apparently, according to dear old Seamus1888.

Which brings me nicely back to Ryan McDonald and Michael Gannon.

Useful idiots to be the mouthpieces of the grey men in the boardroom, and to trumpet their lies.

I’ll start with McDonald, and his claim that Kelechi Iheanacho demanded wages of £50k a week from Celtic, and this is why they wouldn’t retain his services:

Celtic have missed out on bringing back Kelechi Iheanacho after refusing to match the striker’s eye-watering wage demands… Record Sport understands the Hoops balked at Iheanacho looking for a blockbuster package of £50k per week – way beyond the top earners at the club.

Lies.

Record Sport understands?

Really?

How did they come to understand that?

The lie was pushed even further, when the following emerged; Bursaspor President Enes Çelik later disputed the Scottish media claims, stating the striker actually agreed to a package in Turkey worth around £23,000 a week

Kelechi Iheanacho never made such wage demands.

Celtic offered him a paltry £12.5k a week with bonuses.

Because they didn’t want to admit they were cheapskates, they fed their obedient stenographer at the Record the bullshit £50k a week story.

Because nobody would ever have the audacity to debunk their story, would they?

They didn’t reckon on the man with a surname like our club, Enes Çelik, did they?

Now, it wasn’t as if McDonald pulled the figures out of thin air, was it?

Somebody fed him those figures.

Of course, it’s no coincidence whatsoever that McDonald happened to be in the Algarve on a jolly with the Celtic team, and Martin O’Neill.

Along with his mate Michael Gannon.

Who is piece number 3 in the Celtic board and their lies puzzle.

Not much needs to be said here.

I’ve already quoted what Gannon wrote last week.

Just like McDonald, Gannon was fed the £13 million figure to once again trumpet lies for the grey men in the boardroom.

Once again, so they wouldn’t look like cheapskates when it came to the fact that Torino only wanted £6.5 million for Gvidas Ginietis.

Oh dear.

That pesky agent, Dmitri Vinokurov, spilled the beans on that one.

But who cares, he’s only a liar anyway.

All player agents are liars, so nobody will believe him.

Those happy clappers will always believe that we’re good guys.

In all seriousness, though, isn’t it crazy that people will still believe these guys?

That they will put all of their trust and faith in them?

The Celtic board are like that partner in a toxic relationship.

The one that keeps on lying to you, but you keep on trusting them blindly.

That only ever ends up one way, and it never ends well.

So, what is the moral of this story?

Maybe people who actually have no agenda when it comes to Celtic might just be telling the truth.

And maybe the Daily Record and its stenographers get fed more than you think they do, even if they do despise our club.

Finally, the Celtic board lies.

All the time.

I’ve just proven it.

And the reason they lie so blatantly to you is because they think you’re stupid.

Which you must be, because you continue to believe their lies.

One lie, just one, severs trust.

But a never ending stream of them?

More fool you.
