Yesterday afternoon, the SFA confirmed that John Beaton will take charge of Sunday’s game at Celtic Park.
Nick Walsh goes into the VAR room alongside Grant Irvine, with David McGeachie and Jonathan Bell running the lines.
And within the hour, Jamie Bryson was on X having a meltdown about it.
This is absolutely scandalous. After his blatant cheating, to put cheating Beaton in charge of an Old Firm is the equivalent of actually now facilitating his cheating.
Celtic will start the game on Sunday with 12 men. https://t.co/Ex45gS1SV2

Read that again.
John Beaton.
Cheating.
For Celtic.
I’ve been watching Scottish football for a long time now, and I’m not sure I’ve ever read anything quite as funny as that.
Jamie Bryson is known for his unhinged rants on social media, but this one goes beyond unhinged
This is a man who has decided that John Beaton – John Beaton – is the unseen Fenian hand at the centre of it all.
A self-confessed supporter of the Ibrox side.
A referee whose allegiances have been an open secret in this country for the best part of a decade and a half.
We have all seen it.
The Ibrox support have seen it too, and until about four months ago they were more than happy with it.
Because he gave one decision in favour of Celtic last season, fourteen years of the other thing has been wiped clean off the record
That’s genuinely what’s happened here.
One penalty at Fir Park, in the penultimate game of the season, and the whole history is rewritten.
It had a big bearing on how the title race finished, I’m not going to pretend otherwise.
It set up a final day decider and we went and pipped Hearts to the crown.
But one decision does not make a man a Celtic supporter.
Not when the fourteen years before it tell you the exact opposite story.
And the people now calling him a cheat are the very same people who have known what he is for years.
They knew it when he was giving them everything at Celtic Park.
They knew it when nothing was ever quite a foul against them.
People like Bryson just didn’t feel the need to write a thread about it back then.
Beaton will not do a single thing to favour Celtic on Sunday, and anybody who thinks otherwise hasn’t been paying attention
Make no mistake about that.
If there is a stonewall penalty to be given our way, Beaton will not be giving it on his own.
He will stand there, he will let it run, and he will wait for Nick Walsh to tell him what to do.
That’s the pattern.
That has always been the pattern.
He almost cries when he has to walk over to that monitor and give Celtic anything, and it’s ten times worse in games against the Ibrox side.
You can see it on him.
The body language of a man being marched somewhere he does not want to go.
And here is the stat that really does it for me.
It is a very long time since John Beaton awarded Celtic a penalty from open play.
He has never awarded us one from open play since VAR came into the Scottish game in 2022.
Not once.
Four years of it.
Four years, not a single open-play penalty for Celtic, and we’re the ones with the referee in our pocket?
Jesus wept.
Of course, none of this will matter to Bryson or anybody else howling about it this morning.
The narrative was decided the second the Record broke the appointment.
It’s the fifth time Beaton has taken the Glasgow derby, and the last time he had the Premiership one back in March, they contrived not to win it from two goals up.
That wasn’t Beaton’s fault either.
Neither was what happened in the cup tie the following week, the one that got their fans banned from Celtic Park in the first place.
But it’s never their fault, is it?
We are five points clear at the top and it could be eight by Sunday evening.
They came into Celtic Park last season and they’ll come again this week with no support behind them, and if it goes wrong for them the groundwork is already laid.
The referee did it.
The referee they’ve had in their corner since 2012.
Setting the excuse up 72 hours before kick off is a new one, even by their standards
On Tuesday night, Beaton took charge of Hearts for the first time since Fir Park, and their fans turned up at Falkirk with mocked-up SFA £50 notes with his face printed on them.
Hearts lost 2-1, by the way.
So he’s a cheat in Gorgie and he’s a cheat in Govan.
The man has somehow managed to become the most corrupt referee in the country for two different clubs at the same time, and neither of them is the club he actually supports.
Quite the career.
Anyway, enjoy Sunday.
We’ll be the ones starting with 12 men, apparently.
Comical!

I admire him very much, he has worked long and hard for the good of Scottish football…sorry , Rangers…
It’s one fruit cake after another dishing out propaganda in wee Scotland whenever Celtic are preparing for a football match ..intit ? If Bryson is so convinced that Beaton is pro Celtic ( I know ..I know ), start shouting loud about making it compulsory for all referees … assistants and VAR nodding dogs to declare which is the team they support ….just like they were made to do in englandland? That would fix a lot of situations but obviously is still off the table for the governing bodies to insist upon for whatever reasons ! We are still a backward water as far as progression and advancements in our game are concerned in wee Scotland. You can’t expect anything else when the same administration is running our game ? One who has overseen abject failures since the 1960’s yet whose position is bomb proof when staying in failed power ? Well .. Mr Bryson !
Baynard @ 2.07pm…
Not sure if he was a referees when ‘Rangers’ were alive before they died in disgrace…
He’s certainly worked long and hard for the good of SEVCO though for sure !
I follow and am very clued up on Irish politics and Bryson is f*uck all but a Brit immigrant loudmouth from Dinaghadee that used to stand and mouth on an upturned lemonade crate like another Unionist Bastard from Glasgow Jim Murphy of The (Loyalist) Labour Party…
Of course most politicians are liars and this one is a PATHOLOGICAL liar…
1) He says it’s an ‘Old Firm’ Derby – It’s not that died in 2012…
2) He says Beaton is a Celtic supporter…
Two pathological lies…
He is a Brit immigrant STINKING out the beautiful Island of Ireland and should f*uck off to Ayrshire for good or even better some loyalist hole in England !
Bryson knows full well who Beaton supports but he knows also that statements like that gets Celtic bloggers into a rage and will be lapping up the comments.
Why waste your time making these bigots important or even feel important?
He`ll be in hysterics when he sees the snotters flying in anger.
I suppose it`s a means of adding a few extra ££££££s to the wages though.
By the way clach; invite him to clachnapuddin if you are so desperate for him to
come “home”.
