Martin’s time is up at Celtic, he knows it, we know it, and it’s only a matter of time. Staying any longer will only further damage his reputation…

Martin O’Neill is considering his position over the next few days.

He’s going to go on holidays with his wife, and take the time to decide whether he wants to be the Celtic manager any longer.

Let’s get one thing straight here and now, there is not one single Celtic supporter who will hold it against Martin O’Neill if he decides to call it a day.

Not one.

He owes us nothing.

He owes Dermot Desmond and his cabal of charlatans nothing either.

In fact, he owes it to them to tell them where to go after the position they’ve put him in.

They have left him down in every way possible.

Between shafting him in the transfer window, which in turn has damaged his legendary standing at the club, Martin O’Neill can walk away pretty much blameless from this shambles in a long line of shambles over the last year or so.

I do not blame him for any of this.

Because Martin came in last season when this club was in a mess, and he delivered a double in the unlikeliest of circumstances.

He left us with memories that will last a lifetime.

It was up to the Celtic board to build on that and learn from what happened during that season

They chose not to.

Instead, they chose to gut our squad, half-ass the biggest rebuild this club has needed since the Covid collapse, and sell off any of the remaining decent assets we had left.

We are where are today because of them.

Not because of Martin O’Neill.

Yesterday I said that if the great Jock Stein was in charge of the club today, they would find a way to shaft him too.

Because this is what they do.

Time and time again, they shaft the men who deliver success to this football club.

This is how they reward the men who have done that.

Delivering success at Celtic guarantees you nothing

Ask Brendan Rodgers, hell, even ask Neil Lennon, and now ask Martin O’Neill what success guarantees you at this club.

Success at Celtic under this board will be a huge bank balance, and that is it.

Anything else after that is just secondary.

We are a business first and foremost, and a football club a distant second.

I think it’s official now, this board will go down as the most detested Celtic board in the long and storied history of this club.

After what they’ve done to Martin O’Neill, they deserve every bit of our detestation

Many people will say that Martin is as responsible for this as they are.

I don’t agree with that.

After what Martin O’Neill did for the board and this club last year, he should have been handed whatever he wanted to take his team forward this season.

He should have been given the players he required to ensure Champions League qualification.

And he should never have had Arne Engels sold from under him before the LASK tie.

Martin O’Neill’s biggest mistake was trusting that this board would do right by him.

But I cannot blame him for that.

After the way last season finished, we all thought that surely the board would not shaft him

We should have known better.

But I cannot say that he should have known better.

He trusted they would do right by him, and they clearly did not.

Hence the reason we are where we are today.

Martin O’Neill has a very simple decision to make in the coming days.

Put his health, and his family first.

Returning to Celtic and continuing this season as manager is only going to end one way.

I think he’s smart enough to know that.

This is why we’ll see his resignation before this week is out.

He is not willing to further damage his stellar reputation at Celtic.

He leaves us top of the League.

All I can say is God help us for the future under this board.

Because it is bleak…
