John Collins has revealed that Celtic have already begun their homework on Champions League play-off opponents Malmo. Immediately after the draw on Friday in Nyon, Celtic began doing their homework and scouting the Swedish champions.
Speaking after the draw, Collins gave his thoughts on the draw as reported by CelticFC.
“Our research started on Friday afternoon. We have a few weeks to have them watched and we are looking forward to it.
“It’s a good draw. From a travelling point of view it’s not too far. They are obviously a good team, beating Salzburg 3-0.
“We will have the videos and computer analysis of all their games. You do your homework and then you have to perform on the big day, that’s what it’s all about at this level.
“The last team we played, Qarabag, are a good football team, who played a nice style of football. I don’t know the style of Malmo at this point in team but what I do know is that they must be good to beat Salzburg 3-0.
“They (Malmo) have turned around a 2-0 defeat into a 3-2 victory, so they have obviously proved they can cope with pressure and they have a bit of spirit and belief in their team.”
Collins also added avoiding a trip to Albania or Kazakhstan was a good thing for them.
“The journey could have been tougher. All the teams we could have played are all very good teams. We have had a long journey there and it was successful but you always prefer a shorter journey. I know they are the Swedish champions but haven’t had a great start in the league.
“We respect every team we play against and have the exact same preparation. We will have them watched in the next games they play between the tie.
“So far the boys have been fantastic and switched on. We have stepped up since last season and two clean sheets are great for the boys’ confidence as well.
“There is always pressure and expectations but we want to get into the group stages as that where everyone wants to be, in with the big boys. But Malmo will be exactly the same.”
