Celtic were humbled by one of the best sides in world football at the Camp Nou in their Champions League opener.

Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi all had chances in the opening 45 minutes, and the latter opened the scoring after three minutes.

Nir Bitton failed to track the run of Messi, who was fed the ball inside the box and smashed it into the roof of the net beyond Dorus de Vries.

Moussa Dembele had a glorious chance to get Celtic back into the game after winning a penalty but his effort was matched by the ‘keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Messi doubled Barcelona’s lead after some fine one-touch football between the Argentinian and Neymar who unselfishly squared the ball to Messi, who had the simple task of tapping the ball into an empty net.

In the second half Neymar, Andres Iniesta and Suarez, all found the net, and Messi scored two more goals to inflict Celtic’s heaviest defeat in the Champions League.
